With all of the hustle and bustle of shopping and decorating for the Holidays I find myself more concerned than ever with how clean my home is as I will have guests in the house. Honestly, cleanliness has been extremely important the past few months as we have had our home listed for sale and I have become very critical of the cleaning products I am using in my home. I have tried several different products recently trying to find what is the most effective and I was anxious to try the Seventh Generation products and see how they would stand up.
I am extremely picky about what laundry detergent I use for the family. My almost 4 year old Kurtis and I both have allergies which are easily set off by many overpowering scents and I try to keep things as neutral as possible. I found one brand that I have stuck with fairly consistently because it worked for us so why try anything else right? Well, I can honestly say that the Seventh Generation New Free and Clear Monodose Laundry Detergent Packs worked just as well as the product I had previously been using and I can feel better about using them as they are better for the environment.
This was the first time I have tried Laundry Detergent Packs versus liquid detergent and I have to say I am hooked! Just pop one pack directly into the machine before adding the laundry, no mess. I love it! While I haven’t had the opportunity to try on any heavily soiled items yet, it did seem to work great on my families day to day messes. I didn’t have any trouble with the packs disolving in my washer.
As a family of 5 going on 6 we dirty a lot of dishes these days and I certainly don’t have time to wash things twice. With the Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwasher Tabs that does not seem to be an issue. All of my dishes came out clean the first time with no streaks or residue. I was very happy with the packs and they seemed to work well.
- Biodegradable formula
- Chlorine and phosphate free
- Pac “outer pouch” is made from biodegradable PVA
DID YOU KNOW…If every household in the U.S. replaced just one pouch of 20 count concentrated pacs containing phosphates with our phosphate free product, we could prevent 21 million pounds of phosphates from entering our rivers, lakes and streams.
I was extremely skeptical about the Seventh Generation Natural Dish Liquid as I have found many brands don’t cut grease as I would like them to. I used it to wash a pan after frying hamburger in it and I thought it cut the grease just fine. I also found the Lavender and Vanilla scent to be very mild which I really appreciate.
Danica was extremely excited to try the Lavender Purifying Hand Wash. She loved the scent and so do I. My husband Kyle thought it smelled like pine. I don’t know, he is a guy, he said he liked it, but it made me laugh that the scent to him was pine. It will be nice to have a nice mild scented hand soap in the house with guests for the holidays and with all the handwashing we are doing during flu season it is nice that it is mild on my hands.

The item I was most excited to try was the Seventh Generation Wood Cleaner. I have a love hate relationship with my Duncan Phyfe style drop leaf wood dining table and I love to try to make it shine even though it is badly in need of a refinishing. The directions say to Spray on surface and wipe with soft, dry cloth. Buff for best results. It worked great for cleaning the table, but I did not feel that it left me with the shine I longed for. I buffed quite a bit, and while it was definitely shinier than when I started, I still found myself pulling out my can of polish for the shine I wanted. The one thing I really did like about it was the mild Lemon Chamomile scent.
Using the Seventh Generation products made me curious about some of my other cleaning products and what ingredients they contain. I found many of the labels on my other products to be rather vague. I really liked the labeling on the Seventh Generation items and was happy when I looked on their site and saw:
Our commitment to you is that we will be completely transparent in the disclosure of the ingredients in all of our products, and will provide you with as much information as possible to give you the highest confidence that you are making a conscious, informed choice when you choose Seventh Generation products for your home.
It is nice to know what I am exposing my family to and I can’t rave enough about the free and clear items which are great for my family and our allergy issues. It makes me happy to know that someone seems to have our best interests in mind.
Seventh Generation cleaning products are available in stores or online at many major retailers including our affiliate Amazon.
