Chocolate Chip Scones Recipe from KitchenAid {Spring Brunch Series}

No weekend is complete without something special to eat in the morning so I’ll be sharing with you some amazing brunch options during our Spring into Spring event.

One of my very favorite wake me up treats is a fresh batch of scones! Nothing quite compliments a cup of fresh coffee like a scone and I’m a sucker for them every time. I’ve been making scones for several years but have never tried baking a chocolate chip scone. It is  like the perfect mixture of “feels like a dessert” and “acceptable foods for breakfast”. So I was sold when I saw a recipe for them in the KitchenAid Recipe Collectioncookbook, which incidentally has an entire section dedicated to biscuits and scones! My kind of cook book as anyone who knows me will tell you I’m a carbaholic.

Don’t they look yummy? I assure you, they were. My husband ate way more than his fair share and so next time I make them I’ll have to hide some, just for me!

Chocolate Chip Scones Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup golden raisins these tasted amazing paired with chocolate!
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup 1 stick butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees then line two cookie sheets with parchment paper (my preferred method) or lightly grease.
  2. Mix together flour, chocolate chips, raisins, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon in a large bowl until well blended.
  3. Add cubed butter and cut in with a pastry blender or two forks until you achieve coarse crumbs.
  4. Beat buttermilk, 1 of the eggs and vanilla in a small bowl and add to the flour mixture. Mix only until you get a sticky dough. (Do not over mix.)
  5. Drop two tablespoons worth of dough onto parchment lined or lightly greased cookie sheets. Mix remaining egg and milk in small bowl and brush that mixture over tops of scones with a pastry brush.
  6. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes or until toothpick after inserted in center comes out clean. Transfer to a wire rack and cool 5 minutes before serving. Best served warm!

Best served warm! Try serving with regular butter, honey butter or your favorite jam!

My entire family loved these scones. If you were too afraid to attempt them before I hope this recipe convinces you to try them. Many scone recipes are extremely easy and the texture and flavors are a wonderful morning treat!

  1. I don’t usually like scones, but since you add raisins and chocolate chips to these they actually sound very good. I’ll give the recipe a try!
