What You’ll Need

• Fresh strawberries
• Wooden skewer sticks
• Wilton Dark Cocoa Candy Melts
• Sprinkles
• Mason jar or vase of your choice
• Wilton Chocolate Pro fondue pot (instructions on the Candy Melts for microwave variation)
• Tissue paper and ribbon

DIRECTIONS

Turn your Wilton Chocolate Pro Electric Chocolate Melter to the melt setting and pour your Wilton Candy Melts into the pot. I used about half a bag for a dozen strawberries. (Alternatively, you can use your favorite chocolate chips and melt in the microwave or a double boiler.)

*Emilie suggests adding a bit of shortening or vegetable oil (around a teaspoon or two depending upon how much chocolate you’ve melted) to the chocolate for a smooth consistency.  This is especially important if you’re not applying the sprinkles.

Stir the chocolate with a wooden spoon (to avoid scratching your non-stick pot) occasionally until all of the chocolate is melted.

Wash, drain and dry your strawberries, removing any with imperfections or soft spots.
*Although most people chose to leave the greens on the fruit, I like the idea of being able to eat the strawberries right off of the skewer. I also had some berries with large white bottoms. I chose to cut the greens from my berries. This meant inserting the skewer at an angle so they were stable. I could have also inserted the skewer from the narrow side of the berry and covered the cut side – of course I didn’t think about that until after. ha haChocStrawberries_2

Dip the strawberry into the chocolate and rotate until the end is covered. Shake/twirl lightly to remove excess chocolate.
*Since I chose to add sprinkles I wasn’t concerned about the perfection of the chocolate as much as having a decent amount to make the sprinkles stick (oh yeah, and I like chocolate so the more I could get on there the better!). I used a spoon to help cover any empty spots. ChocStrawberries_10

I found these awesome Wilton Sweetheart Sprinkle Mix with six varieties all in one jar. I LOVE them. The sugar crystals don’t show up well on the chocolate but the candy pieces were perfect.ChocStrawberries_7

I applied the sprinkles over a baking tray with paper covering it. When I had a good amount on the tray I used my fingers to apply instead of the shaker. Any extras could easily be put back into a container by folding the paper and pouring.ChocStrawberries_6

I used a mason jar and a tall (heavy) drinking glass to hold my berries while the chocolate dried. I put them into the fridge to set before putting together my final bouquet.ChocStrawberries_8

To finish off my bouquet I added pink tissue paper to the interior of my mason jar and tied a red ribbon around it. I also tucked a paper towel into the bottom of the jar to give some separation to the skewers and add some height to the ones in the center.

Arrange your strawberries in the jar and keep refrigerated until you’re ready to give them to your sweety. Perhaps you can attach a decorative card right to the ribbon to complete the gift!
