Some of the best holiday gifts are those that are handmade. I love the thought and care that goes into making a gift myself. I used to think that making my own gifts would be complicated and too time consuming. But I’ve realized that I can keep it simple and still create an awesome present. Even better is when you can make a holiday gift craft that children can do themselves. My kids are beaming with pride after they create their own gifts, and I can guarantee you family members love them! If you need some new ideas, I’ve got this fun Cocoa Holiday Gift Jar Craft that was inspired by the Klutz Pop Collage: Make Your Stuff Stand Out Craft Kit.

I picked up this small gift jar from the dollar section of my local Target and used cocoa from my monster sized cocoa container from Sam’s Club. Since I used items I already had on hand, this gift was extremely affordable to make.

Klutz Pop Collage Kit

Learn to tear, cut, hole-punch, and layer the included Pop Pages in unexpected ways. It’s a no-mistake, anything-goes activity-chaos encouraged. Tackle the 10 projects included in the book like paper bowls, a bookmark, an owl, an accessory tray, a frame, and more. Then get inspired with ideas from the book so you can make anything pop!

While the book includes more than 10 actual projects, it is is also filled with general ideas meant to inspire such as how to make a glittery glaze and adding finishing touches.

The kit includes everything you need to get started on a project. Even simple objects you already own like notepooks and pencils can be turned into something special.

For my project I used some winter themed scrap paper and a hole punch that happened to be the right size for the top of my jar. I also had some ribbon meant for Christmas wrapping that reminded me of snow.

Holiday Gift Jar Craft Supplies

Supplies Needed

  • custom glaze from Pop Collage Activity Kit (or mod podge)
  • sponge brush
  • white glitter
  • glass jar
  • scrapbook paper
  • ribbon
  • berry accents
  • cocoa (or coffee/tea)
  • hole punch

Directions

Apply custom glaze to side of jar. How far up you want to go is entirely up to you, but be sure not to get any glue near the top or inside the jar since it will hold something that will be ingested.

I went up about 2/3 of the way up, just because I loved the look. Sprinkle glaze with white glitter.  Let dry.

Apply scrapbook paper to the lid with another layer of glaze underneath the paper and over the entire lid. I shook off the leftover glitter over my glaze for more sparkle. If you don’t have a paper hole punch that is larger, consider using a traditional paper punch to create many small snowballs on the top of the lid instead.

Holiday Gift Jar Craft Step 2

Let dry completely and fill with cocoa. Tie with ribbon. I happen to have some holly berry picks from last year so I cut and attached one with a leaf to the front for some color.

I love how this turned out! It would be an easy holiday craft for kids and is perfect for teacher appreciation gifts!

If you would like something other than traditional cocoa, consider this Russian Tea Mix instead. I love the flavor of this tea, also known as friendship tea. Attach a small tag to the gift you are set!
