We love toys that help our kids practice critical thinking and allows for plenty of creativity. Last month I shared how the Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-a-pillar™ is our four year old son’s new friend that helps him learn so many important skills.

The developmental toys in the Think & Learn line spark your kids’ natural curiosity, and are friends that play in all kinds of new ways. When kids are busy playing, they’re building more than preschool learning: the foundation to grow into big thinkers.

I highly encourage you to check out that post if you haven’t already to see more of the cool features of this educational toy.

We’ve been experimenting with fun ways to play with the Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-a-pillar™ and teaching Wesley some valuable skills along the way.

Crack the Code

Designed for ages 3 to 6, the Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-a-Pillar is made up of eight interlocking sections which dictate the actions of the toy. You can get creative with your play time and have your child “Crack the Code”. For example set up fun obstacles or create maps for the caterpillar to follow.

We started out with a few simple obstacles, but we let Wesley lead our playtime and he decided it would be more fun for his friend to knock something down instead.Crack the Code with Fisher Price Think and Learn Code a Pillar

Dominoes and dice were a great choice because they don’t stop the the Think & Learn Code-a-pillar from moving forward and they can be knocked down without falling over too easily on their own.

The Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-a-pillar had an easy time plowing through these obstacles as long as he had the correct code.

Wesley had to experiment a few times to get it right, but never got frustrated. Half the fun is trying to make it work exactly like you want. To make it easier you can work with a few of the segments instead of all of the pieces that come with this toy. Starting out with shorter distances and working your way up to longer distances and more obstacles worked well for us.
