A Little Froggie Love is in the Air – Prepping for a Frog Birthday Cake

My niece Bella has a thing for frogs. And since her birthday party is this weekend I thought I’d be the extra cool aunt and offer to make her a frog cake. I’ve got to put those Wilton decorating skills I’ve learned to use and frankly, I don’t like to just make a cake to make a cake. While I enjoy decorating them, I don’t love to eat them. *GASP*, I know! I’d much rather have a slice of cheesecake or brownie over a piece of cake so I couldn’t let the opportunity pass to make one for little Bella.

This is the cake I’m tackling today and tomorrow. Adorable isn’t it?

It is the Leap Frog Cake from Wilton which utilizes their butterfly pan. I love it when they convert other pans because now I can make a sweet looking butterfly anytime I want! The only downside is that I’m going to have to draw in the features instead of follow the lines within the cake. I’m definitely not an artist but I can usually look at a picture and copy it. Thankfully this one doesn’t look too hard but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that my frog actually looks like a frog.

One of my favorite features of this cake is that a sugar cookie is used for the face which isn’t anything I’ve done before. I think it will add a new dimension to this frog, don’t you?

With Warren’s birthday next week I’m going to probably be all caked out. His is a cool 3D cake that will require even more decorating time than this one but I have make something as cool for him as Lucian’s train cake. I’ll keep you posted on progress.

I’ve off now to make my sugar cookie head!

Update: Here is my Wilton Frog Birthday Cake completed!
