It is the little things that often make the biggest impact on others. No matter how big or small, helping others in your own community feels good. This is especially true for showing support to mothers and their babies. My latest partnership with Pampers as a member of the Pampers Baby Board, once again gives me the opportunity to make a difference, even if it is a small one. I can’t wait to tell you about it, but first, find out what we are celebrating with a gift to my local NICU.
Pampers Preemie Swaddlers Size P-3 Diaper
Pampers is the first major diaper brand to offer a diaper specifically designed for the most vulnerable premature babies born in the second trimester and weighing as little as 1 pound (500 grams). It is an unfortunate fact that each year, the number of premature births in the U.S. continues to rise but thankfully, the survival rate of these tiny babies is increasing. Pampers responded to the request of NICU nurses and with their help, created a diaper for the smallest of babies, the Pampers Preemie Swaddlers size P-3 diaper. It launched in September of this year and is three sizes smaller than a newborn diaper! A labor of love, this diaper took 3 years to develop. That is more than 10,000 hours of research across 3 continents that went into this new size P-3 diaper design, including in-depth research with over 100 NICU nurses and hundreds of other nurses across the U.S., Canada, France and Japan.
For every baby, love begins at first touch. For premature babies, touch is not only a sign of love, but also a catalyst for survival and growth. From the nurses who care for them day and night, to the anxious parents who can’t wait to take them home, to the fabrics that envelop their skin, every touch helps the most vulnerable babies grow stronger and healthier.
Local NICU Donation
In honor of the new Pampers Preemie Swaddlers size P-3 diaper and World Prematurity Day on November 17th, I was given a grant to spread some good as it relates to the NICU. If you’ve been a long time reader, you know we’ve blessed our local NICU before. Just a couple of months ago, my contributing writer Janelle and her sister-in-law delivered a donation to our local NICU in honor of their babies and experience at our local hospital. You can read more about that donation and their personal story here.
I also had the chance to give back earlier this year with a Mother’s Day donation and a donation for the nurses, both courtesy of Pampers. They were so very appreciative that I couldn’t wait to do it again!
Last year Janelle headed up a delivery of stockings for the parents with babies in the NICU. This year Janelle wasn’t sure if she would be able to do it since she was scheduled for major surgery on November 1st. I thought it was meant to be when I received a grant that could cover the costs of this donation and help Janelle.
The stockings were lovingly handmade by April Dammar who was happy to donate her time the cause, in honor of her nieces/nephews who have been lost.
To fill the stockings, I purchased items of convenience and comfort such as a soft blanket, slipper socks, snacks and mints. Practical items included tissue and hand sanitizer.
For baby, I included an Eric Carle toy, board book, Pampers wipes and a $10 Visa gift card to purchase the correct size of Pampers diapers at the retailer of their choice.
To help me assemble, I enlisted the help of my two older boys on their day off from school.
It was a great lesson in giving back and a fun activity to do together!
We made 20 stockings, which is the perfect amount to ensure that no family goes without when they are delivered.
I also included a case of 24 small tubes of toothpaste and 24 toothbrushes, for those parents who get caught without.
The local hospital was once again so appreciative of this donation. They have a closet dedicated to donations for those in need and I was happy to offer these stockings!
Would you like a simple way to give back? All it takes is a picture shared on social media to help the March of Dimes!
