A Spiderman Cake for Warren Makes for a Very Happy 4th Birthday

On Feburary 12th, we celebrated the 4th birthday of my son Warren. He was so proud to be finally turning four and we were so happy for him and how he has grown. But I can’t help but tell you that both my husband and I gave him extra kisses after he fell asleep the night before to say goodbye to our three year old.

I did what I never thought I’d do. I committed to making him a Spiderman cake while 34 weeks pregnant. Bending over a flat 2-D cake while trying to get the exact lines of Spiderman’s suit just right and trying to keep my belly from hitting the sides of the cake was not really my idea of a good time. Nevermind that because we had family in from out of state I ended up working on this until 2:30 am.

I typically enjoy the process of creating cakes for my boys even though it is a lot of work. This year I was simply determined to get it done as fast as possible, although I laugh at that because I’m such a perfectionist that my cakes are always anything but fast. I tried to convince my son he just wanted some really cool Spiderman cupcakes instead but he definitely wasn’t convinced. Because we had picked this cake out last spring and I bought the cake pan at the Wilton Tent Sale in June (before finding out I was pregnant) I couldn’t go back on my promise and dissappoint.

Let me just say that his love for this cake and his reaction in general was so worth it.

  1. great job!! we had a spiderman birthday party for my 4 year old too. i was not as brave as you, i just did spiderman cupcakes with store bought spiderman wrappers

  2. Nora wants Princess Arial and a pink party. My sis-in-law has an Arial cake pan but I don’t know if I have the patience. When I expected to be in the hospital during her birthday I had settled on Arial cupcakes but now I’m contemplating something else. Not sure if I dive into the full cake mold or not. I might be better at drawing on the cake – OR – cupcakes! ha! Great job making your boy so happy!

  3. Aww, thats so sweet. Great job on the cake. My mom always made my cakes & I want to try to do that for my boys too. So far I have. But they’ve been easy not like spiderman.
