Sweet Christmas Memory #sogoodsosweet

Last Christmas was different than any other Christmas before it. It was the first time my sister and her family were not with us and the first time I hosted the holiday at my house. For 30 years I woke up in my parent’s house on Christmas morning so it was certainly different. It was a small affair, just my parents and us. While some of our traditions remained intact, we decided to embrace change and do something different to celebrate.

Typically by Christmas evening everything has settled down and we are sedated. All the presents have been opened and our bellies are stuffed with Christmas dinner. And each year I can’t help but notice that there is a bit of sadness. All the build up to the holiday is over and I reflect on how yet another year has passed. But this year was different. This year we decided to go somewhere at night on Christmas Day. Our festival of lights.

The weather was gorgeous and the lights breathtakingly spectacular. My parents had never seen them before which made it even more special to share this local treat.

What surprised me even more was the amount of people there. Sipping hot cocoa, toasting marshmallows, ice skating and taking in the scenery. Everyone smiling and wishing each other a Merry Christmas as they walked by.

The Christmas spirit never felt more alive and it was a special way to end the holiday. Walking hand in hand with my loved ones and capturing the moments with pictures, I’ll remember this Christmas always. As the year we were forced to change some of our traditions but realized that the best tradition was always present.

Celebrating with family.
