This past year I embarked on a new adventure. I became my daughter’s Girl Scout Troop Leader. It has been very exciting (and sometimes stressful), but I have learned a lot along the way. The Girl Scout motto is “Be Prepared” , and I have learned just how true that statement can be. As I pack my big bag of supplies for each meeting, I find myself needing more and different items each week. One week, I found myself not prepared when one of the girls came to me with a cut and was looking for a bandage. Seriously? How could I not have a bandage with me. I didn’t have one, but another mother present did. I learned then that I needed to find a good First Aid Kit to have with me, and now I have one.
MyQuestStore.com and Ready America sent me a couple of great items in my quest to “Be Prepared”.
I received a Ready America First Aid Outdoor Kit from MyQuestStore.com. This kit contains 107 pieces and is just perfect for my Girl Scout Leader bag.

I felt it was very necessary to list the items in the first aid kit as I notice that it is different from what is listed on the MyQuestStore.com site. For example, the site lists a cold pack and there is not one, and the site does not list scissors or the CPR Breathing barrier. These are just a couple of many discrepancies between the site and the actual kit. Despite the differences, I am extremely thrilled with the kit I received. i think it is great that they include the CPR barrier. It is also wonderful that they include a scissors to cut the bandages, gauze or tape as needed.
I love how compact the case is yet everything is very easily accessible inside. With a great selection of bandages, this will be the perfect kit to keep with me whether on an indoor or outdoor adventure with the girls.
Ready America also provided me with an Emergency Power Station (MSRP $27.88). This 4 function device is a battery free device powered by a crank handle. It works as a Flashlight, Radio, Siren and Cell Phone Charger.
This item I was excited to have for personal use. Again, it goes with the motto of “Be Prepared”. We moved out to the country this past year, and with the move comes some concern about power outages. We luckily have not had any issues yet, but I know that rural areas tend to get power restored slower than urban areas where more people and businesses are being serviced, thus making them higher priority. My mother in law calls me every time it storms to remind me to get buckets of water because if the power goes out our well pump won’t work and we won’t have water until the power comes back on.
The Emergency Power Stations says “Crank Handle 1 Minute for up to:
- 30 Minutes of bright light
- 2 minutes of talk time on your cell phone
- 15 minutes of radio
I tested this and the bright light and radio are definitely true, but I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and it uses A LOT of power. Once my phone was completely dead, I tried using the charger to charge it to use, but was unable to get it to power up far enough to make a call. When the phone was on and not dead I could crank the handle and keep the phone from continuing to lose power, but never get ahead on the charge. The Power Station comes with Cell phone plug ins for iPhone (4s and earlier), Droid, and Blackberry (Mini-USB)
The radio is by far my favorite feature. It has an antenna on the bottom, and the crank works as a stand to make the it stand up. The reception is great and the sound is great
I now keep the power station on my nightstand so that I always have a flashlight (with a working battery) next to me at night. It is great for that.
