I find it basically impossible to start my day without caffeine these days. Maybe it is because as a mother of 3 my day is jump started with “Mom I need…” instead of easing into things. While I have found caffeine in many sources over the years (soda, tea, etc.), I only recently learned to appreciate a good cup of coffee. I married an avid coffee drinker who likes it so strong you can almost chew it and he has gradually over the past 9 years taught me how to enjoy coffee. That is why my husband Kyle and I were both excited to try Boca Java Artisan Roasted Coffee.
Kyle chose the Sumatran Sunset whole bean coffee, a medium roast and the Boca Villa whole bean, a dark roast. He was very pleased with both of them. He said that he followed the directions recommended on the bag (which was slightly more grounds than he would normally add) and both turned out just as he had hoped, a strong flavorful coffee. Kyle felt that both blends were a fabulous value for gourmet coffee at $7.99 for an 8 oz bag.
I on the other hand was just giddy to try the Mint Chocolate Memories whole bean specialty flavored coffee. It was honestly hard to choose with other great flavors such as Chocolate Hazelnut Heaven and German Chocolate Cake. I read several of the reviews on the site prior to trying it and was extremely curious what to expect. The smell when I opened the bag and ground the beans was glorious and I could smell it in the house all day which I enjoyed. I will say that the bag says “it’s like having a scoop of ice cream right in your coffee cup” and I did not find that to be true which I think is what some of the reviewers on the Boca Java site were expecting. When I added some vanilla flavored creamer, it was to me, exactly like having some fabulous mint chocolate ice cream in my coffee.
This made me really want to try to make an iced coffee out of the Mint Chocolate Memories. I had never tried iced coffee before and I followed the instructions which they sent me with the coffee, I did add some vanilla creamer to the iced coffee too. I topped my coffee with some whipped cream and a mint cookie that I had and enjoyed it on my deck. It was the perfect pick me up on a cloudy day. The iced coffee was wonderful and I was anxious for more the following day.
