Are you all set for Valentine’s Day? Last night I spent the evening with my two older boys and together we prepped our Valentine’s for their classmates on Friday. Each of them signed a card and we attached fun trinkets to them since candy is not allowed at our school due to allergies. Adding stretchy hearts, robot sticker sets and themed pencils on the Valentine’s to dress them up was certainly exciting for them. And while these small gifts are very inexpensive, my kindergartner and first grader can’t wait to hand them out.
Why do you think that is?
I think it is because it simply feels good to give something, however small, to others to show that we care. A token of friendship or general thoughtfulness for the special people in our lives.
While you may believe Valentine’s Day is just an excuse for businesses to drum up sales, this survey reveals Americans are far less cynical:
- Almost all (92%) of Americans agree that Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romance – it’s about showing people you care about them.
- 82% believe the holiday is more about love than just spending money.
- Americans prefer to give Valentines (73%) versus receive them (27%).
- Americans prefer to be gifted with experiences (82%), versus more tangible gifts (18%).
- A personalized gift (64%) is preferred to a handmade (22%), or expensive gift (8%).
Build-A-Bear Workshop® has some great options for Valentine’s Day this year and is a sweet way to show someone you care. My 23 month old Wesley and 6 year old Warren absolutely love stuffed animals. Both would be thrilled to find one of these adorable guys, made by me with love, sitting on the dining room table, waiting for them on Valentine’s Day morning.
And even better, this year, you can give back when you create your own Build-A-Bear.
This Valentine’s Day season, Build-A-Bear Workshop® is giving back with the “Million Hearts, Million Wishes, Million Ways to Help” campaign benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, donating a minimum of $250,000.
