“Oh my goodness you have a TON of hair!” These are the first words of any poor hair stylist who attempts to cut or style my hair. I’ve had up to three stylist simultaneously trying to put my hair into an up-do for a wedding often hiding half of it in a ponytail in the center of my head. Not only do I have a lot of hair, it’s very thick and with each pregnancy (four) it’s become more and more curly and generally unruly. I made a choice a year ago to cut it a bit shorter and attempt to work with the waves in my hair instead of spending hours trying to dry and straighten it into submission. With this attempt I’ve had to dive head first into the world of hair products when I was offered samples from Umberto of Beverly Hills. They have two amazing products that actually did what they claimed for my difficult hair.
The first product I tried was the Curl Enhancing Lotion and I LOVED it. This light product defines and controls curly or wavy hair without leaving it stiff or crunchy. Above my hair is pictured wet without brushing and only towel dried. Next is pictured using minimal product and dried with a diffuser. The last two (striped shirt) shows using a bit more product (slightly more than a quarter size) and dried with a diffuser while leaving it more damp. I loved how this product worked. I fight frizz but appreciate a product that can maintain the wave and curls.
My daughter has a lot of the wave that I do in my hair but she was born with it where mine developed over time. We usually dry her hair straight before bed but when she saw mommy trying something new she decided she wanted some curls too! I’ve wanted to try this with her hair since the day I saw the first waves starting in her wet hair. She usually has “wild woman hair” with waves going all over but never defined curls. The Umberto of Beverly Hills Curl Enhancing Lotion worked perfectly on my daughter’s hair as well. She has very fine hair but the product didn’t weigh it down at all. I love her soft waves!
Umberto of Beverly Hills Roman Oil SerumNext I tried the Umberto Beverly Hills Roman Oil Serum. This oil smooths, conditions and tames frizz. I’ve used a similar brand name product for a few years now and this type of oil is the only way that I can stop the frizz monster. The Roman Oil Serum seemed to do the trick although it could have added a bit more weight for my heavy hair. I know for most people however this would be the kiss of death and they want to keep as much volume as they can. You can see the before/after picture above with my wet but brushed hair and then my dry hair after using the oil serum along with blow drying and flat ironing. You can also see how straight my daughter’s hair usually is.
Umberto Beverly Hills has a new color coding system along with their new silver product packaging. I think I’ll be staying away from the Volume Boosting Foam or Thickening Spray! Maybe that’s just what you need though.
