*This post is brought to you in partnership with Dorel Juvenile Group. All thoughts are my own.*
I have worked with the Dorel Juvenile Group for years with brands like Safety 1st, Quinny, Cosco and Maxi-Cosi. During this time, I learned a lot about their products, but I didn’t know all that much about the company and people behind the brand. That is, until now. AOL’s newest series This Built America went behind the scenes and got a closer look at Dorel Juvenile Group and the people who work every day to keep your children safe. After watching it I am prouder to work with them and use their 100% made in the USA products. I was very surprised to learn that when several years ago when most of their competitors and moved their operations overseas, Dorel Juvenile Group decided to take a different approach. They invested in themselves instead, right here in the United States. Highlights from this series:
- Dorel has invested more than $20 million in its state-of-the-art Dorel Technical Center for Child Safety to drive technological advancements in child passenger safety. The Technical Center, opened in September 2010, marks the first major initiative in the Company’s car seat product capital investment program. The first resulted in new jobs with plans for a total of 100 new positions in Columbus by the end of 2014.
- Ninety percent of Dorel’s North American car seats and 50 percent of DJG USA’s total business are currently produced and distributed from the Columbus facility. The new facility is integrated in DJG’s Columbus 1.1 million square foot campus which can produce up to 20,000 car seats per day.
- Side impact crashes have dramatically increased since the 1980s, and today are the deadliest kind of automobile crash for children. In 2013, Dorel Juvenile introduced its latest advancement in car seat safety, Air Protect +. Air Protect + combines the advanced protection of our Air Protect cushion system with patented GCell HXTM foam designed with hexagonal shapes for superior protection around the torso. Together they provide full body side impact protection.
The amount of time and research that goes into their products shows the commitment they have to a quality product to keep our children safe. I encourage you to check out the This Built America social media channels for more unique behind the scenes photos at Dorel Juvenile’s Columbus, IN facility.
