I remember my Mom had a Johnny Jump Up when we were kids. My brother was 10 years younger than me and I vividly remember him using it and loving it. Jump forward several years and my sister had one for my nephew and he loved it. So, when I had my first baby I wanted one. I knew they were great at keeping baby happy and safe. The only problem was we didn’t have any doorways in our open-concept vaulted ceiling house. I did get a Johnny Jump up and I have hung it in the garage when I work outside for all of my children and they have all loved it.
Evenflo recently sent me their ExerSaucer Jump and Learn Jam Session (MSRP $149.99) for review and it is like a Johnny Jump Up that doesn’t require a doorway and has a LOT more to offer! I was very excited to let Delaney use it and see how happy she would be. We have not been dissappointed as she loves it.

- “Smart” electronic toys interact with one another, providing baby with fun lights and sounds in three genres of music
- Allows baby to exercise legs while being entertained
There are so many fun things for Delaney to do in the Jump And Learn which is nice because she doesn’t get bored with it easily. The musical and light items are stimulating and draw her attention. By far though, Delaneys favorite right now is the little blue tamborine which has a mirror on one side so she can look at herself and she loves to grab it and try to eat it as she is teething now.
The adorable musical note printed seat is machine washable which is a must with a spitty baby like mine. I am also sure it will be nice for the occasional diaper blow-out. It hasn’t happened yet, but I know it will! The tray and all of the toys are easily washable with a wet washcloth or sponge.
The Jump and Learn has 3 height adjustments which would be perfect for most babies, but Delaney is a little peanut and even on the lowest setting she has a little trouble reaching to bounce very much. She is in the bottom 3% for height and body weight so even at 8 months old now she just doesn’t have the height or body mass to get this thing to bounce like I wish she could. I am sure any other average size child would have a great time bouncing, but she struggles a little.
I think it is great that the Jump and Learn has activities that are suspended above Delaney. Most exersaucers leave baby only looking down at activities and this one encourages them to reach up as well as look down. Delaney really likes the colorful musical note lights that flash above her when she pulls on the soft trumpet, saxophone, or guitar. They play different music based on the instrument pulled. I love that they incorporate music and also lets baby learn that different instruments get different results.
My 6 year old Danica LOVES the suspended microphone. She loves to pull up a chair next to Delaney and sing into the microphone. I think the microphone is a little silly for babies though as they would never recognize that was what it was and really can’t grab it and do much with it (at least Delaney can’t anyway). This is probably the only item on it that does not get used or even looked at by Delaney unless Danica is next to her singing into it.
All of the toys can be easily removed so baby can play with them anywhere. The other nice thing about that is when removed it creates a little tray which we could easily use to put other toys or items in.
My only complaint about the Jump and Learn was that to have all of the toys fully operational you need 12 AAA batteries. That is a lot of batteries in my opinion. There are 4 toys which each require 3 batteries each so you wouldn’t necessarily have to have them all operational. They don’t seem to go through them very quickly though so that is nice. None of the toys run continuously unless being prompted by baby.
