Shopping for bras isn’t my idea of a good time. Because I’m bigger busted I struggle to find bras that fit me in stores. Many don’t carry up to my size or those that are available aren’t all that appealing. Perhaps only basic colors are offered or they look like something I would expect my grandma to wear instead of a young mother who still wants to feel desirable to her spouse. (And hey, who doesn’t?) Just because I don’t fall into the majority, doesn’t mean my undergarments shouldn’t make me feel good and give the proper coverage and support!
I’m certain I am not alone. Whether you are smaller busted and need something to accentuate your assets or you need some lift after you’ve discovered having a baby has caused your once perky chest to sag, we all seem to need a little help with finding the right bra.
Surprisingly, you don’t need to go into a department store to find the perfect fit. While it is nice to see a bra in person, who needs the limited selection or picked over sizes? (And seriously, bra shopping with my two little boys is at the bottom on my list of fun things to do!)
My time is limited and I appreciate that I can do this from the comfort of my own home and get the largest selection possible from websites like BareNecessities.com. Bare Necessities offers bras in over 200 sizes: band sizes ranging from 32 to 56, and cup sizes ranging A to M, in much loved everyday and fashion brands, like Wacoal! There you will find a super simple approach to making sure your bra fit is correct.
To find the right fit for you, start with your current bra. Take a look at this bra fit checklist to see how a bra is supposed to fit. For example, that spillage out of the cups is not only not a good look, it isn’t how your bra should fit! And we all deserve support from our bra that is still comfortable. If you are constantly having to adjust the “girls” throughout the day then you definitely need this fit check!
How do I know if I have the right fit?
A bra that fits well will feel comfortable and give you a great shape. The center of the bra in between the cups should lie flat against the chest, your breasts should not be spilling out on the sides or top, the back band is straight across, not riding up, and the straps don’t dig into your shoulders. Bottom line: if it fits well you won’t want to take it off the instant you get home.
I’m full busted, and my shirts always gap between the buttons.
Try a minimizer bra. These bras can minimize your bust by up to 1-1/2 inches and minimize shape up to a full cup size- while maintaining a beautiful shape.
My bra cups are wrinkly and bumpy under my clothes.
If you have wrinkling happening in your cups, you should try sizing down a cup size.
My bra is tight and irritating around the band. By mid-day, I can’t wait to get it off!
Try loosening your band. If you’re already on the loosest hook, you might want to try going up a band size. Sometimes when you do this, you’ll have to go down a cup size. Don’t get discouraged- it may take a few try-ons to find the right combination.
Now you simply have no excuse to not find the perfect bra. From easy at home shopping and bra fit guides, you can get a fabulous support for you that looks good but most importantly, feel good! So what are you waiting for?
