Growing up in rural Minnesota, it was an exciting night when the big, yellow Schwan Food truck pulled up. If you’re not familiar with this “family tradition” you’re missing out. The Schwan Food Company truck sells frozen foods of all kinds to your door including my favorite egg rolls, chopped steak, and ice cream. OHHHH the ice cream! I LOVED the orange push-ups. Recently The Schwan Food Company acquired Fruchi, a Minnesota company that began as a start-up in 2006, making amazingly delicious fruit smoothies.
So what’s different about these smoothies? Fruchi has a list below and I have to agree on every point! Not only are they a healthy snack (although I still watch the amount of juice I give my daughter simply due to sugar content), they are quick to prepare, easy to eat, and delicious!
• Perfect for a healthy, on-the-go lifestyle
• Blended with the finest, freshest ingredients
• A tasty way to get over a full serving of fruit
• Rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants
• Flavor-sealed in a ready-to-serve pouch
We’ve been taste-testing these yummy smoothies all week and they’ve become and instant hit with the whole family. My daughter loves the Strawberry Banana (which is great b/c I don’t enjoy anything with banana unless it’s an actual banana – odd – I know). I love the Raspberry Rush and Island Splash (let me tell you a secret – Island Splash is amaaaazing with a little Malibu Rum added – shhhh). My husband loves the Raspberry Rush too.
We keep our fruit smoothies in the freezer and put them in the refrigerator early in the day if we plan ahead of time. If not, just pop them in the microwave for a few minutes and mash them around by hand a bit first (my husband is best at this job). I did find out the hard way that this theory doesn’t work so well coming right out of the deep freeze. I wound up with part liquid, part solid ice chunks and that’s just not as refreshing. (That said it was still yummy mixed with sprite and you could easily add it to some chopped ice if you fridge is fancy like that).
Fruchi is primarily sold as a fundraising opportunity and I think it’s a perfect fit although I’d LOVE to be able to buy these at my local supermarket (see a list of a few Minnesota retail locations – lucky ducks – with hopefully more to be added in the near future). Maybe I’ll see this on my Schwan ordering options online? I can see these as the perfect mid-summer treat for a sporting event. Snip the top and you’re set for a sweet treat that helps you beat the heat. Ok I’ll stop rhyming but really, we love Fruchi smoothies and think you will too.
