Getting ready to have a baby can be stressful, especially as a first time parent. So many things to decide that you might never have really thought to consider.
- Will you have your baby in a hospital? A birthing center? At home?
- Cloth or disposal diapers?
- How do you feel about circumcision?
- Will you co-sleep?
- Are you going to try to breastfeed or use formula?
The decisions can be overwhelming and those are just a few, not to mention all the unsolicited advice others offer. My favorite advice to offer any new mom is that every baby is different. There is no perfect solution for everyone and what works for one won’t work for another. The best thing you can do to put your mind at ease is do a little research and arm yourself with information so you can do what is best for you and your baby.
Trust your instincts.
And above all, know that no matter how hard it gets, this too shall pass!
I think a breast pump is a must-have for any breastfeeding mom.
One big decision I made early on in my pregnancy with my first was that I would try my hardest to breastfeed. Even though I was working full time outside the home, I was convinced that I could simply pump all the milk my son needed after my maternity leave was over. While this was true, it wasn’t easy. Having a good electric pump is a must. A double pump is even better so you can cut your time in half. I did this with my first two boys and I’m thankful that it worked for me.
Being home with my third has been fantastic, but getting time away even for just a few hours is nice for any mom. Just this past week I took a blog trip and while I was only gone 36 hours, I needed to bring a pump since I’m still breastfeeding. I was sent the NUK® Expressive® Double Electric Breast Pump to try out and so I brought that with me. It is designed to make breastfeeding easier for busy moms, offering everything needed to pump, store and feed!
The pump arrived the day before my trip so I didn’t have time to do anything with it but sterilize before I left. With only a quick glance at the instructions, I was able to intuitively figure out how to work the pump. I’m certain it helps that I’ve worked with several pumps but the overall design isn’t too complicated and the instructions are easy to follow.
Unlike other pumps I’ve owned, this one gives me control not over the speed at which it pumps but also the suction! This makes it easy to tailor it to my preferences and even lets me save my settings with the memory option. There are a whopping 32 custom settings for maximum comfort and speed. The pump unit also has an easy-grab handle & photo holder so you can look at your sweet baby as you express your milk.
One of my other favorite features is the larger black bag. It is discreet enough that doesn’t scream to the world that I’m carrying around a breast pump and it has plenty of room inside to carry more than just my pumping supplies.
This set includes:
- 4 pump, store, feed containers with lids
- 2 orthodontic silicone slow flow nipples
- 2 bottle hoods for on the go feeding
- 2 silicone cushions for extra comfort
- Voltage adapter
- 2 breast shields with valves and membranes
The new NUK® Expressive® Double Electric Breast Pump system is available exclusively at Babies R Us for $179.99. This is a premium pump at a value price!
