Mealtime has become a challenge at my house lately.  With a husband and 4 kids it seems nobody can agree on what they like to eat.  Worse yet, they may eat something one day and reject it the next.  One safe bet for my family has always been fish sticks.  They all like them.  All of the kids will eat them without complaint.  I was sent some free product coupons to try Gorton’s new Smart & Crunchy Fish Sticks and Fillets, and now I can feel better about feeding them their favorite meal.

Gortons Smart

The new Smart & Crunchy Fish Sticks and Fillets are made from 100% Alaska Pollock and are never fried, so they have 50% less fat than Gorton’s regular breaded Fish Sticks and Fillets. And, thanks to a seasoned panko crumb, they have the same great taste and crunch you and your family have come to love from Gorton’s.

So I have to admit, my 2 youngest children who are home with me during the day eat fish sticks about once a week.  They love to dip it in honey.  I think it is strange.  I prefer tartar sauce, but whatever makes them happy.  So when Gorton’s sent me coupons to try the new Smart & Crunchy Fish Sticks and Fillets I was a little skeptical if they would live up to my children’s picky tastes.  I can happily say that the whole family loved them.

My 6 year old son Kurtis helped me cook dinner that evening.  He loves to be included.  We decided to make some of the fillets and the sticks as my husband and I prefer the fillets and the children prefer the fish sticks.  I served them with some home fries like a “fish and chips” meal.  I almost didn’t look at the directions for baking the fish as I make the originals all the time, but I did look and I am glad I did.  The directions say to “Spray a shallow metal baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.” This is not a necessary step with the original fish sticks and fillets.  I imagine since they are never fried, they contain less oil in the breading and would therefore stick to the pan.

It was a great meal and my kids all cleaned their plates.  My husband said he actually prefers the Smart & Crunchy over the original fillets.  They were really nice and flaky.  Not greasy.  The breading had a nice crunch.  I love knowing that they have 50% less fat than Gorton’s regular fish sticks.
