We love books at our house. The children have quite a large collection and we read every night before bed. Danica is learning how to read now that she is in Kindergarten and she is constantly looking for new books. Kurtis loves listening to stories and Keegan loves looking at pictures in books and talking about them. Danica, Kurtis and Keegan were very excited to receive complimentary copies of the Hooligan Bear by Ian Toynton series of books to add to our collection. It has something for all of them!
Hooligan Bear is a collection of children’s books based on Hooligan and his nephew Little Louie written by Hollywood producer Ian Toynton. The two little bears live on a shelf in a factory and get into different adventures throughout the series, with themes/lessons revolving around friendship, love, caring, sharing, and togetherness. The age bracket for Hooligan Bear ranges from 1-7 years old, and is great for both bedtime stories and beginning readers
When reading this series I couldn’t help but think how great it would be for children who are going through some sort of change in their lives. The first book titled Home shows how the bears suddenly find themselves in a new situation and shows how they adjust.
When Hooligan Bear and his nephew Little Louis return home to the bear factory and find it has been closed, they are faced with a problem. It’s a turning point for the little bears and the beginning of many adventures.
The second book titled New Friends introduces 3 new bears Scooter, Waldo and Lenny who make their home in the abandoned factory with Hooligan and Louie. I think it is a great story of friendship and acceptance.
The third book A Special Day has the bears out on an adventure to plan a birthday party for Little Louie.
By far my favorite part of the books are the vibrant and adorable illustrations by Andrea Dietrich. The eye-catching illustrations really paint a picture for the reader of what is happening throughout the book. Kurtis and Keegan both have enjoyed looking through the pictures in the books.
We received an extra copy of all three books with ours and through the authors generosity we were able to donate them to Kurtis’ early childhood program. The teacher was very excited to receive them as they are for the perfect age range (1-7 yrs) for their program. (Thank you Ian Toynton!)
While there are only 3 books in the series, the adventure continues online! Weekly adventurers are also created for readers to follow along with and read to their children each week via Twitter. These Twitter adventures can all be found on Storify. You can learn more by liking Hooligan Bear on Facebook and following them on Twitter @hooliganbears, @hbhooliganbear, and @hblittlelouie.
One lucky reader will win the Hooligan Bear series which includes all three books: Home, New Friends, and A Special Day. This is a value of over $47!
