It’d been quite a while since I had a full eye exam. I knew my eyes had changed again a few years ago but when I got pregnant with the triplets I didn’t bother going in since I knew my eyes were only going to change again. Why invest in new glasses only to need them changed again? That is why I was so happy to receive prescription glasses sample.
I finally saw my optometrist and not only did my prescription glasses change drastically, he was concerned about the high pressure levels in my eyes which are a sign of glaucoma. I had no idea. Sometimes ignorance is bliss but in this case it meant I could go blind! I was scheduled for a follow-up visit to check my pressure levels in another six months. He also told me that I needed bifocals and computer glasses. Okay. I’m 32! I felt as if I was suddenly aging at light speed. I suppose my body went through a lot carrying the babies but I had no idea it would affect my eyes so drastically.
I left the office sulking. I didn’t want the hassle of computer glasses let alone bifocals! Not to mention the expense of buying new frames and lenses times two.
I’ve looked at the option of buying frames and lenses online for quite some time now. My cousin works for an optical shop and he suggested I stay away from a bifocal or progressive lens online (they’re known for poor quality and I don’t want to mess with that when it comes to my every day lenses). I was offered glasses by Glasses Direct out of the UK and thought I’d give it a shot ordering my single vision computer glasses through them.
I chose these Element Miller frames in dark burgundy. I wanted something that stood apart from my everyday frames which I prefer in black or tortoise colors. Hopefully I don’t resemble Sally Jesse too much! I was pleasantly surprised when these eco-friendly glasses fit me perfectly. The nose piece on these frames is so comfortable and I have no pinching anywhere. (Since my local shop won’t adjust online orders I was hesitant that they wouldn’t fit quite right). I love that they’re made from recycled materials. These frames are listed for $95 and include a free second pair! (Watch for my next post on the prescription sunglasses I ordered.)
I was disappointed to find out that I couldn’t use Glasses Direct’s free seven day home trial program. It’s only applicable for customers in the UK. The same applies for their returns program. What a great idea though! They allow you to chose four frames to try on before selecting the frames that you want to ultimately purchase. For an indecisive person like myself this sounds wonderful.
They had a nice selection of women’s glasses to chose from. I measured my current frames and compared the sizes to the options online hoping they’d fit and it worked!
