I’ve admitted before to having a bit of a book buying addiction for my kids. I’ve gotten a lot better over the last couple of years, simply because we are running out of space on our book shelves. But reading is such a big part of our daily routine. A couple of our very favorite board books have been DOG and TAILS, both national bestsellers from author Matthew Van Fleet. The stories were always short enough to keep their attention and detailed with moving parts and textures. The rhythmic tone is fun and humorous. (You would not believe the giggles over the line, “All dogs poop, all dogs pee.” every time.) In fact, DOG was loved and read so much that our binding finally fell apart. It took a whole lot of abuse and I had to throw it out when no one was looking. It is one of the few books that I will be replacing because it just belongs in our library.
I was sent Van Fleet’s most recent work, Munch! It just hit stores a couple of weeks ago and will be another favorite in our collection, I’m sure.
Four clever pull tabs and seven tickleable textures put toddlers nose to nose with captivating critters as they demonstrate all different kinds of mouths and the amazing things they can do. Along the way, sounds, colors, and actions are introduced in a fun and interactive way. Matt Van Fleet’s books are sturdy and substantial and can be enjoyed by the entire family! For ages 2-6 years.
When I offered my 17 month old the book to try out, he was immediately fascinated by all the pull tabs and unique textures. My two older boys recognized the author’s work immediately and sat down with him to enjoy the story. It has all the elements I expect to see from Matthew Van Fleet and is another we’ll enjoy for years to come!
