Having a colicky baby is probably the biggest test of patience I have ever had to endure. Both of my boys were colicky for months. I would have done anything for any solution I could find. They would both spend about 5 hours every evening crying for reasons I have yet to explain. They seemed uncomfortable, gassy, miserable. When having my fourth baby one of my greatest wishes was that she would not have to endure the weeks of colic that the boys did. I got lucky. She does not seem to be colicky and I am one happy Mom.
I have breast fed all of my babies and while I continue to breastfeed my 3 month old Delaney I am heavily dependent on bottles too. I learned early on how much I valued being able to pump milk and have others share the joy of feeding my baby via bottle. This has not been an easy task however with Delaney who, while not colicky, is a VERY spitty baby and seemed to reject her bottle a little bit more than my other babies. Tommee Tippee sent me their new New Anti-Colic Closer to Nature Bottle to try with Delaney and I was happy to try and see if there was a difference.
With Closer to Nature Sensitive Tummy Feeding Bottles, switching between breast and bottle feeding becomes easier than ever before. We’ve designed the unique, easy-latch-on nipple shape with breastfeeding experts to mimic the natural flex, stretch and movement of mom’s breast. With a super-sensitive anti-colic valve you can enjoy baby’s intuitive, comfortable, relaxed feeding.
At first I will admit I was not overly impressed with the bottle. It comes with several pieces that make up the anti-colic valve which of course means more pieces to clean, assemble and lose. The nice part is that they include a little wire brush with the bottle which makes cleaning much easier. My husband and sister though both immediately noticed how much better Delaney eats with this bottle. They both commented on it without me asking them how they liked it. She latches on better and spits out less milk while feeding. I think the design of the nipple is much closer to a real breast.
- Unique, easy-latch-on nipple shape
- Super-sensitive anti-colic valve
- Soft, natural-feel silicone nipple
- Easy-hold bottle with medium-flow nipple
I really liked how easy it is to see how much milk is in the bottle. Up until this point I have always used a bottle with a disposable liner and it was always much harder to tell how much was in the bottle to start and how much was left in the bottle after eating with the liners. This was definitely a benefit to the Tommee Tippee bottle. I do however have to adjust to the fact that it takes a little longer to heat the bottles with the hard plastic versus a disposable liner. I heat the bottles in hot water baths and it just takes a little longer.
The short round design of the bottle were a little awkward as it didn’t fit easily into the side pockets of the diaper bag, but I have learned to deal with it since Delaney really does prefer this bottle over my former ones.
The Closer to Nature Added Comfort Bottles are available in both 5 or 9 oz., and retail for $10.99 (single) and $24.99 (3-pack) in store and online at Babies R Us
