I really am a sucker for a good party dip. It can be anything from a cream cheese fruit dip, to a dessert dip with chocolate chips, a potato chip dip or my person favorite, bacon dip that is loaded with cheese! Dips are fairly easy to transport and always a hit with guests so I like to make them for virtually any holiday or celebration. Who’s with me?
Peanut Butter Cup Dip Ingredients:
You’ll need the following simple ingredients to make this sweet peanut butter cup dip that really is the perfect dip!
- peanut butter: I used creamy but crunchy would also work for this recipe.
- cream cheese: One brick softened to room temperature is all you need.
- powdered sugar: Otherwise known as confectioner’s sugar for a touch of sweetness and fluffy texture.
- butter: I used salted but unsalted works as well. Just be sure it is at room temperature for easy mixing.
- milk: 2% was used when testing but you can substitute whole milk, 1% or even skim milk.
- COOL WHIP whipped topping: Be sure to thaw in the fridge ahead of time. I used Original but you can swap that out for extra creamy or lite if you prefer.
- mini chocolate chips: Semi-sweet mini chocolate chips work best. While you can substitute regular sized chocolate chips, it does make the dip chunkier and harder to dip.
- salted peanuts: This is a sweeter dip so the peanuts add a nice crunch and the extra salt helps a bit with the sweetness.
- Magic Shell: Any chocolate, fudge or peanut butter variety. This is optional and just for garnish.
- your favorite dippers: Pretzels, cookies, vanilla wafers, animal crackers, graham crackers or apple slices. My personal favorite was pretzels for this dip because it is on the sweeter side.
How to Make Peanut Butter Dip
To make this amazing peanut butter dip with cream cheese, you’ll want to start by cutting your mini Reese’s peanut butter cups in half. If you are using the larger fun size peanut butter cups, I recommend cutting them into quarters if you can. If the chunks are too large it is more challenging to lift them out with whatever you are using to dip.
Next, chop up the salted peanuts. Can you skip peanuts for this recipe? Sure. But the saltiness of the nuts really helps with the richness of this dip so I highly recommend them. I also personally like the added texture.
In a large bowl, beat softened cream cheese and butter until light and fluffy using a hand mixer or stand mixer. Add in powdered sugar (confectioner’s sugar), creamy peanut butter and milk. Mix until well combined.
Fold in whipped topping, mini chocolate chips and salted peanuts until blended. Fold in peanut butter cups.Be sure to set aside some chopped peanuts, peanut butter cups and mini chocolate chips for garnish, if desired.
I added the peanut butter cups last they wouldn’t break down as much while folding in the rest of the ingredients and give it a gentle, but good stir.
Transfer to small serving bowl. Chill until ready to serve or serve immediately.
Garnish with additional peanut butter cups, chopped peanuts and mini chocolate chips.
The best part is yet to come! To take this dip to another level entirely, you can drizzle Magic Shell over the top as well.
Magic Shell Chocolate Fudge or Reese’s Chocolate and Peanut Butter Dessert Topping are both good choices. To double down on the peanut butter flavor, you can drizzle with Reese’s Peanut Butter Topping instead. Now it is snack time!
Serve this delicious peanut butter dip recipe with graham crackers, pretzels, vanilla wafers, animal crackers or your favorite cookies for dipping when you need a last minute dessert or appetizer. If you love deluxe caramel apples, you’ll love this as a peanut butter apple dip.
How long does this party dip last?
Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator up to 5 to 7 days. There is a lot of sugar in this recipe which helps to preserve it and nothing that will break it down further such as fruit. We enjoyed this dip for several days after and there is no noticeable difference in taste. It will however firm up over time like any cream cheese dip, so if you prefer a softer texture, let it sit a bit at room temperature before serving.
If you can’t get enough of peanut butter cups, try these chewy Reese’s Peanut Butter Cookies loaded with peanut butter, mini peanut butter cups and peanut butter chips! Super quick and easy to make, plus they are naturally gluten-free!

This dip was a huge hit with my family, especially my middle son who absolutely loves peanut butter cups. We all preferred pretzels for dipping because it is a sweet dip and the salty pretzels worked perfectly. The pretzels were also nice and firm so they could easily handle the chunkiness of this peanut butter dip.
