Growing up, my favorite parts of the holiday season were always baking with my mom and decorating our tree. My dad would put all the lights and garland on the tree, and my mom, my sister and I would decorate it together. I always remember each of us hanging our own ornaments with care. Even now, you can find my ornament commemorating my birth on my parent’s tree. Our Christmas tree may not have fancy and decorated to match a theme, but it always was our tree and a piece of our family history.
With our boys, I want to continue the tradition of keepsake ornaments. Every year they get excited to put ornaments on the tree. When I had these adorable knit holiday ornaments personalized, my seven and five year old couldn’t wait to hang them up. They were so excited to see their name!
I love that these cable knit hat ornaments for my kids won’t ever break. Nothing is more tragic than having a special ornament shatter. And even my one year old could hold his ornament and put it on the tree with no worries. I know the quality of these ornaments will stand the test of time so they can be used for many years to come.
In between my husband and I, I placed our new silver snowflake ornament which features our family name and 2013. It looks beautiful and really shines. You can see all these ideas and so many more in the Ornament Workshop.
I’m embarrassed to admit that for a few years I went without a tree skirt at all. At some point, it got separated from our Christmas decorations within our basement, never to be seen again. Now I finally have a gorgeous red and green argyle tree skirt which features our family name.
But one of my favorite new pieces of decor is this ceramic santa boot. Besides being personalized, it offers an endless number of ways to decorate your home.
While I think the suggested idea of filling it with a plant or candy canes would be great, I decided to use some other items I had on hand to create my own bouquet.I filled the bottom in with some leftover kraft paper from a package I received in the mail. I used pinecones from our yard for texture and berries for a pop of color. I also had some large cinnamon sticks leftover from a craft project. You wouldn’t believe how divine this smells!
