I have to admit I am not a gourmet cook. I try, but my husband Kyle is much more of a chef than I am. Most of my homemade concoctions start with some kind of can of cream soup. When I do find a recipe I like, I often don’t have the required ingredients on hand or the time to make it. Progresso has come up with the perfect solution for ‘chefs’ like me with their new line of Recipe Starters Cooking Sauce.
Progresso Recipe Starters sauces are available in five flavorful varieties that can each be used as a starter to create numerous home-cooked meals. For added inspiration, Progresso created 80 recipes utilizing this new line of cooking sauces that can be found on Progresso.com/RecipeStarters. Many of these recipes are classic family favorites, such as Bacon Mac n´ Cheese, Chicken Pot Pie and Chicken Parmesan, and utilize ingredients your family may already have on-hand.
- Creamy Parmesan Basil
- Creamy Roasted Garlic with Chicken Stock
- Fire Roasted Tomato
- Creamy Portabella Mushroom
- Creamy Three Cheese
Since I had just bought a package of chicken breasts, I decided to make Crispy Garlic-Parmesan Chicken and serve with some egg noodles. The recipe was very easy and I did indeed have everything on hand (chicken breasts, butter, 1 can Progresso Creamy Parmesan Basil cooking sauce, garlic powder, bread crumbs, grated parmesan cheese, and pasta or potatoes). The recipe actually called for shredded cheese, but I found the grated I had worked just as well.
I was slightly concerned that one can of sauce would not be enough for the family, but we even had some left over. The recipe only uses a slight amount of the sauce when breading the chicken (3 tbsp) and the rest was simply heated and used to pour over the noodles. Kyle described it as “a good alfredo sauce”. The only thing I added to it was a little salt. It is a bad habit, but I add salt to almost everything.
Progresso Recipe Starters are the perfect solution for days when I don’t have a lot of time or energy to cook. The Crispy Garlic-Parmesan Chicken I made baked up in about 15 minutes and only took about 10 minutes of prep time.
The kids all loved their dinner and ate it without complaint (which is very impressive for our house). They love anything that involves noodles so this was right up their alley. I can’t wait to try the Bacon Mac ‘n Cheese with the Creamy Three Cheese cooking sauce and I love Beef Stroganoff and can’t wait to make it with the Creamy Portabella Mushroom cooking sauce.
