Rainbow Coloring Pages have never looked so cute with this fun hand-drawn art. Kids will love to color or paint with watercolor this Somewhere Over the Rainbow free printable featuring a happy sun and cloud! Fight boredom at home with this fun kid’s activity.
Spring is nearly here and with spring showers come the beauty of rainbows! I’ve always loved how the colors blend from one to another seamlessly across the sky. My mom will tell you that I’ve been drawing rainbows for as long as I could hold a crayon! I hope you enjoy this free rainbow coloring page with your own family!
I picked up my sketch book to create a new coloring page for my kids to enjoy and both of them excitedly requested a rainbow. I wanted to add some interest to the typical solid bands of color so I drew a unique pattern within each stripe. I couldn’t resist including a cheerful sunshine and cloud at each end. I love the look of the little emoji faces smiling.
Watercolor Rainbow Printable
Typically my kids use crayons or markers for coloring at home but this time I wanted to show you an option for using watercolor paints for this free rainbow coloring page design. Be sure to print onto a thicker weight paper for watercolor painting. I love my palette of metallic watercolor paints which add a shimmer to the page. I used these for the sunshine and cloud on my coloring page. Let it dry and go back to paint a second layer in just a few areas of the sunshine and cloud to add some depth to the page.
Watercolor Products
There’s no need for fancy paints if you don’t have them in your own art supplies at home. That half-used watercolor palette from your kid’s preschool class will work just fine! Add some water to each watercolor paint section so you have a fairly transparent paint and apply them in rainbow order onto each stripe of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple).
Watercolor Painting Tip: If you’ve used an inkjet printer to print your coloring page at home, you’ll want to be somewhat careful to paint within the black lines so the ink doesn’t bleed (you might have less bleed on a laser printer). Be sure to let that first layer of paint dry. You can also speed things up with a hair dryer.
Your paints should have dried some in this time as well. Use this thicker, less transparent watercolor paint to go back and add darker details to the small sections of each pattern to bring some depth to the design if you’d like. If your paints have completely dried just add a very small amount of water to get the less transparent paint for the details.
Coloring with Colored Pencils, Markers or Crayons
If you don’t have watercolor paints at home you can of course use regular printer paper and any variety of art supplies to add joy to this free rainbow coloring page. My daughters love using crayons, markers or colored pencils. I got this giant set of the higher quality (but still affordable) colored pencils on Amazon for my older daughter and she uses them constantly. Buy a roll-up pouch for them and they’re ready to go on a trip and roll out to see your full palette of colors (kids and adults alike would love these as a gift!).
I enjoyed drawing and painting this adorable rainbow coloring page for you! I hope you enjoy coloring or painting it. It’s sure to help keep kids or adults entertained and relaxed and makes for a great quick at home art lesson.
