I’ve made it my goal to put my workout gear on first thing in the morning on the days when my daughter goes to preschool. These are the days that I’ve dedicated to go to the gym – no excuses. While there have been days when my daughter is sick or clients needs come first I’ve really stuck to this as often as I can.
Earlier this week I slept late. I still put on my new gray yoga pants and searched for a shirt long enough to cover the areas I’m still not so proud of. No luck. I dug through my husband’s drawer and found one that would work until I found time for those piles of laundry. I sat down to work on a last-minute blog header and wound up working much longer than expected (easy to do when you love your job). Then a phone call to my sister-in-law to discuss the quickly filling summer calendar. Suddenly my hour at the gym was down to twenty minutes!
I left the house determined to get a workout in and narrowed down my focus to only the machines this time. I made my circuit and even did some of the arm exercises I despise in the short time I had there. I left feeling proud that I stuck to my commitment but knew I was lacking in my cardio for the day.
Shockingly it was a beautiful day here in Duluth today! Yesssss. We’ve had a miserable spring and with the prospect of more snow on the way (yes, it’s possible to get more snow in Duluth, MN in April) I knew I needed to get out and enjoy the sunshine. I picked up my daughter from school, packed up the dog and our jogging stroller and the three of us drove a few short miles to the Munger Trail near our house. This awesome paved trail winds through the woods and along waterfront and was the perfect place to get our exercise. I am confident in saying that we ALL very much needed this today.
What keeps you motivated to stick to your workout routines? Does it help to break routine and do something new?

I have been having trouble sticking to something here lately. I did an online challenge a bout a month ago, and I was really successful with that motivation!
