With the start of the new school years comes the question of what will I pack my boys for lunch? I’ve talked about the “selective” eating of my kids before, which makes it tricky to find things that they love for lunch. I like ideas that are simple but still offer them some variety. Honest Kids challenged me to Rock the Lunchbox and share our school lunch ideas online.
To start, I asked my son Warren, to draw a picture of his perfect lunch. He thought about it for a moment and then got to work drawing a slice of pepperoni pizza, watermelon and grapes. It wasn’t a surprise since both my boys love pizza and fruit!
Pizza isn’t all that convenient, and I’m not sure if Warren would be thrilled with an english muffin or bagel made into a mock pizza. (This would be a great option for others!) Since Warren also loves cheese and crackers, I decided that we’d simply add pepperoni to his cheese and crackers instead. It is simple but packs some extra protein for him. To drink, he received Honest Kids Goodness Grapeness Organic Juice Drink. (It has 30% fruit juice and filtered watered which means less sugar than other options.) To round out his lunch, I added grapes, Annie’s Organic Snack Mix and Annie’s Organic Bunny Fruit Snacks.
For his older brother Lucian, I followed the pizza theme and gave him quartered canadian bacon slices with his cheese and crackers. I included fresh carrots and cucumber with ranch dressing, watermelon and Stonyfield Organic YoKids Squeeze low fat yogurt. Of course he also received an Honest Kids organic drink pouch.
