I love feeling comfortable in my clothing, especially after becoming a mom. Ten years ago I’d be satisfied with anything that looked good, never mind if I immediately removed that uncomfortable dress or those blister causing high heels as soon as I got home. Now I like finding pieces that are versatile, flatter and feel good. When I spied the adorable Jacobethan dress on Shabby Apple, I knew I wanted to add it to my wardrobe. I received a sample (squeal!) from Shabby Apple and love it!
This dress is very soft, almost as though you are wearing your favorite lounge clothes. It may appear to be black/gray stripes or a light gray/darker gray stripe but it is actually a dark blue and gray stripe. And while it looks great as is on the model, temperatures here are starting to cool off. I decided to layer this for fall and absolutely loved the many options!
I am wearing a dark tank underneath, dark gray scarf (my favorite!) and a lightweight sweater vest. Last week was fairly warm here in Minnesota but I know it won’t be long before I’m needing extra layers. This dress so easily accommodates! And as the weather gets even colder, I can easily swap out the tank for a long sleeved top and the vest for a cardigan sweater. I’m actually wearing skinny gray pants and my favorite tall boots underneath, perfecting for staying warm. You don’t have to have a model’s body to look good in this dress. Because it is great for this kind of layering, you can easily hide any unflattering spots with additional pieces, no matter what time of year.
My one and only complaint is the length of the dress. I am 5’8″ and it does pool around my ankles. This dress is designed for someone who is very tall or who wears a higher heel. The boots I’m wearing have almost no heel so I’m on the hunt for the perfect boot since you won’t find me hemming a dress. *cough*
