For my all 4 of my children I have used a high chair as soon as they were old enough. I think most of them I put in it at about 3 months. Well before they were actually eating, but it was a nice place to have them sit at times while I was in the kitchen. I did eventually move them into a booster at the table with us, but the one we had was made entirely of plastic. I was never really impressed with it. When Summer Infant asked me to try out their new Bentwood Booster Seat I was excited to see if this would be better than my old seat and allow me to finally get rid of the big bulky high chair. I am extremely impressed and our old highchair is now in the basement waiting to find a new home!
I was immediately drawn to the Bentwood Booster seat because of the stylish look of it. I love the beautiful wood back and seat which go very well with our dining set. The base and tray are made of sturdy plastic. The tray is dishwasher safe, BPA free and phthalate compliant. I love that it can go in the dishwasher, SO convenient.
- Stylish, lightweight, user-friendly wood seat that is a great high chair alternative.
- Includes a cushioned seat, 3-position recline, and 3-position tray to provide comfort and support for a growing baby.
- Modern design flows wonderfully with any kitchen décor.
- 33 lbs
- 5.5 pounds
The seat requires some assembly. Not anything major, just a few screws to attach the base to the seat. There are straps to attach the seat to the seat of a chair and the back of the chair. They are extremely easy to use and easy to adjust.
There is a small green cushion on the seat which is easily removed and washed in the washing machine. This is another feature I love as my old high chair was so hard to clean.
The seat adjusts to 3 positions for recline. We don’t actually use this for Delaney as she only sits in an upright position now, but I did test it out some and found it reclines easily and snaps securely in place. My only concern would be that you would have to leave the strap attaching the seat to the chair back somewhat loose in order to move the seat forward to recline it. Probably not a big deal.
The seat has a 3 point harness that buckles around child’s waist and up through the legs. This was the only strange thing I found with the seat, the strap that comes up through the legs is strangely long and not adjustable. It really isn’t a big deal as that would only serve to stop the child from slipping down the bottom of the seat and it would still do that, but really it is unusually long.
Delaney now sits at the table with us for every meal. The booster is the perfect height for her. It is small enough that the chair still slides completely under the table with the booster attached. We have not been using the tray most of the time, but have on occasion such as when we have company over and need more table space. The tray slides easily on and off of the seat by squeezing tabs on the outside of the tray. It was very easy to put the tray on and off.
We love our new Bentwood Booster Seat and Delaney loves being at the table with the family. So with a big sigh, I will say goodbye to our old highchair as we move on to the next chapter in our family with no high chair, just one big family gathered around the table.
The Summer Infant Bentwood Booster Seat has a MSRP of $54.99 and is available exclusively in stores and online at Babies ” R ” Us.
