New technology is great… when it works. I’ve been late in the world of smart technology simply because my family hasn’t been able to afford it. With the option of a free upgrade to the iPhone I finally jumped in recently but I’ll admit that I’m not the most patient when it comes to interfaces on the phone not working well. I was asked to look at the new msn.com experience to see how I liked it and I was pleasantly surprised.
I don’t often use a browser for current events or news. To be honest I usually avoid most of the drama of celebrity hype and gossip. I usually use apps to check the local weather or look at Facebook posts from our local news channel. The other browsers were always too bulky and frustrating to navigate for my patience.
I took some time to explore msn.com on my iphone and loved how clean and simple the layout is. The articles were all displayed visually for ease of use on the phone. With a simple swipe I could move from headline to headline within each clearly marked category. My local weather was there at the top to easily see without accessing a separate app.
They also provide links to the popular social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook but I’m not sure why anyone would use them through the browser instead of using the phone app instead. That said I do like how clean and simple the page is to use. I work on a mac at home and don’t see the new msn experience on my laptop.
Although many of the stories were more gossip than I care to read I felt there was a nice mix of more serious content or simple lighthearted stories. Who doesn’t smile seeing a story about photobombing dogs?
