Before having kids I had plenty of fun shopping for my nieces and nephews. I’d look for the cutest outfits I could find and think to myself what an awesome aunt I was for getting something so cool for them to wear. What I didn’t realize is that not all clothing available for young children is actually practical. My tastes have changed since becoming a mom myself. So what do I appreciate and look for in clothing for my boys?
Cool Colors and Graphics
While my baby Wes might not care about how his clothing looks, my 4 and 5 year old certainly do. If they receive something in their favorite colors of red or orange it is more likely to become a favorite. And if it has a cool graphic that interests them they are excited to wear it. Some days I have rely on that just to get them dressed. Just ask my son Warren who couldn’t wait to put on his new red tee and Lucian who was super excited about his “cool” new diesel truck shirt, both of which I picked up in a Carter’s sale last week. Without that it can be a chore to corral them to put their clothes on or convince them they no longer want to run around naked. *cough*
Comfortable and Practical
I have very active boys so I am always on the lookout for clothing they can move in. I love tagless shirts for comfort which is a good thing since recently Warren decided that he will not wear clothes with tags. Ugh. (I hope he grows out of that stage soon!)
I also like pants with elastic or adjustable waists so they fit properly. It is not fun to constantly hike them up and it can be a tripping hazard. Lucian can be pretty good at falling over nothing all on his own, poor kid.
The Right Fabrics
I love to cuddling with my babies and nothing is better than a super soft fabric that breathes to snuggle. What I loathe to hear from my preschool aged boys is that a fabric is itchy. If it scratches or isn’t comfortable they will never wear it again. And if it can’t hold up to multiple washings and some good ‘ole fashioned scrubbing to remove stains it won’t last long around here.

I honestly wish this line came in my size. With tops like this, can you really blame me? Love!
Sometimes it is just too much fun to shop for babies and toddlers. Sigh…
