Applesauce Jello is a favorite vintage recipe that makes a great holiday side dish or light dessert for your potluck! This refreshing strawberry jello features unsweetened applesauce and a splash of Sprite to offer a bit of sparkle and tang. It's finished off with creamy Cool Whip (or homemade whipped cream) and mini marshmallows for the ultimate jello salad year-round. Add it to your Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner menu or bring it to the family cookout where it is sure to be a crowd favorite.
Whisk in applesauce until well combined. (I used a small milk frother)
Pour in Sprite and give a slight stir. Transfer to a serving dish. (You'll want one that is 2 to 2.5 quarts ideally)
Cover and chill until fully set, approximately 4 to 6 hours or overnight.
Before serving, gently fold together whipped topping and mini marshmallows in a medium bowl.
Top jello salad with whipped topping mixture and garnish with fresh strawberries, if desired.
Cover and refrigerate any leftovers for up to 5 days.
*Can use two 3 oz boxes of jello instead of one 6 oz box of jello.
Other garnish options include chopped pecans or walnuts or fresh mint.
Can also use individual dishes instead of one large serving dish.
No lemon lime soda? Use one cup of cold water instead.
