Sauteed Apples with Pumpkin Spice

Sauteed apple are perfectly seasoned with a delightful blend of pumpkin spice. Kids will love these cooked apple chunks infused with the cozy flavors of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice. This sauteed apple recipe is easy to make anytime with just four ingredients. Serve as a side dish, snack, or topping for ice cream, pancakes, waffles and more!

Ingredients

  • 4 medium to large crunchy apples around 2 lbs
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Core apples and cut into thick chunks. (You can peel if desired.)
  2. Place apples in gallon sized ziploc bag.
  3. Add brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice into bag.
  4. Shake until well coated.
  5. Melt butter in large frying pan over medium heat.
  6. Add water and apple mixture.
  7. Cook apples over medium heat, for 8 to 10 minutes or until apples are tender, stirring occasionally. (Be careful not to overcook.)
  8. Cool slightly and serve warm as is, with whipped cream or as a topping over ice cream, waffles or pancakes. Can also serve cold if preferred.
  9. Refrigerate any leftovers.

Recipe Notes

*cinnamon can be substituted for the spices or use the following homemade pumpkin spice blend:

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
