Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1-2 tablespoons prepared horseradish (to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 pounds large shrimp precooked, deveined with tail on
  • fresh parsley for garnish, optional
  • fresh lemon wedges or slices for garnish, optional

Instructions

  1. In small bowl, whisk ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce until well combined. (Start out with a lower amount of horseradish and add more to taste for your preferences.)

  2. Transfer to small bowl. Cover and chill.

  3. Serve with cold, full thawed shrimp.

  4. Garnish with fresh lemon wedges or slices and parsley, if desired.

  5. Store leftover cocktail sauce in airtight container for 1 to 2 weeks.*

Recipe Notes

Want to try a new twist? Replace 1/4 cup of the ketchup with chili sauce. Consider adding a splash of hot sauce.

Be sure to keep the shrimp cocktail cold, placing on ice if needed.

You can cook your shrimp if preferred. Just be sure to chill before serving or plunge into an ice bath.

*Do not dip shrimp directly into the cocktail sauce if you want to store leftovers as it can introduce bacteria or enzymes from the shrimp that could spoil the cocktail sauce faster.
