Valentine Spritz Cookies

Valentine spritz cookies are fun, heart cookies to serve someone you love on Valentine's Day. These buttery cookies are fun to make with a cookie press and decorate using sparkling sugar and chocolate drizzle.

Ingredients

  • cups butter (3 sticks)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

To decorate:

  • sparkling sugars
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon canola oil or shortening

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar thoroughly.
  2. Add egg, milk, vanilla and almond extract. Beat well.
  3. Stir together dry ingredients (flour & baking powder) in separate bowl and gradually add to creamed mixture.
  4. Mix until dough is smooth. DO NOT CHILL!
  5. Add dough to a cookie press with heart disc.

  6. Press out cookies onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
  7. Gently press down dough that forms Y shaped created by cookie disc.
  8. Sprinkle with sparkling sugars.
  9. Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly golden just around edges.
  10. Cool completely on wire rack.
  11. Melt chocolate and oil.
  12. Drizzle over cookies or spread over back of cookie to create cookie sandwich. Transfer to lined baking sheet to set chocolate.
  13. Store in airtight container.
