Welcome to this weekโ€™s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, Iโ€™ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

Do you ever find yourself making poor choices for yourself to benefit your kids?

I’ve been noticing I do this a lot with fruit. If we have a lot of fresh fruit in the house I’ll have some but if we start getting to the last couple of bananas for example, I won’t eat it because I want to save them for my kids, even if I want one. If I open up a can of peaches I won’t have any because If I don’t I can get four servings out of it and can serve it twice. I think I do this out of a combination of wanting to save money and to always have a lot of different fruit choices for my boys. I certainly would never run out of fruit since we have so many choices like fruit strips, fruit cups, etc. Why do I do this? My body needs the nutrition as well.
Do you do this type of stuff too?

Now it is your turn to share!

  1. I often do this. I will take the kids to the doctor as soon as they have a fever. When I was sick a few weeks back I had a fever for over a week and waited it out (of course I knew I had the flu and was best staying home), but do it for earaches just the same.

  2. Yes I do this all the time. Especially with yogurt. I only get to eat what’s on the lids because I want to ensure it serves longer for them to have. I’ll not eat the bananas etc just to make sure they’ll have enough. I do know I need nutrition too, but it’s like it just happens naturally that I do this.

  3. That’s what moms do. I have noticed that also. Almost all the mothers I know sacrifice their piece for their kids. That’s how they love their kids. So touching, but you have to take care of yourself also. This is a good post. Thanks.:)

  4. Oh sure. Like the other folks who’ve commented, I’ll refrain from eating something that I’d rather them have, buy their clothes first, etc.
