Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

My question:
Is your birthday a big deal to you? If not, at what point did that change?

My answer:
Today is my birthday but it really just isn’t all that big of a deal to me. My birthday really hasn’t for the last few years.
(When I had turned 26 I was made the mistake of saying I was 25 four months after my birthday.) I think this is especially true once you have kids and are so busy. Perhaps next year when I hit 30 it will mean more. And this is no offense to my family who does celebrate my birthday. It certainly isn’t ignored, I just don’t really care all that much. Is that weird?

  1. I think it is always been important to me maybe not as celebrated as much but still important. I love to hear someone remember my birthday without me having to tell them

  2. Happy Birthday! As I get older the typical birthday things don't mean as much to me (i.e. presents); I enjoy spending time with my family more! 🙂

  3. Happy Birthday! No that isn't weird. The focus just seems to switch to your kids' birthday instead.

  4. Happy Birthday!

No, birthdays aren't as big a deal to me as I get older but I love that my kids are old enough to show me they love me & appreciate me. Who doesn't like that kind of validation? lol

  5. I stopped celebrating my birthdays after 25. At 30 Hubby threw me a surprise party. The was the last birthday celebrated. I will be 34 next year and will definitely not be celebrating. I will be at the docs getting some work done. Aloha and take care.

  6. Happy BIrthday to you…

NO not any more I run from my birthdays now I just hit the BIG 4-0 Yikes

  7. I want my husband to acknowledge it, but other than that, it's not a big deal to me.

My parents forgot it several years ago, so I got over birthdays at that point, lol Plus, now I'm on the opposite side of 30 and not too happy with that – I'll just pretend I am 29 for awhile. LOL

  8. It's sad, but when I lost my mom unexpectedly, 3 yrs ago, my birthdays just haven't been the same. Mom made birthdays extra special….now I focus on my little ones birthday – oh how my mom would have loved a granddaughter's birthday to celebrate! 🙂

  9. Happy Birthday! I don't celebrate my birthday either I'm 27 going to be 28 Aug 10th, but will probably be packing for a big move next month.

  10. Happy Birthday! Mine is on Sunday. 🙂 I think that as I've gotten older, I don't feel like my birthday is such a big deal. I think it all changed when I had kids.

  11. My birthday has always been a big deal to me but not to anyone else! Ha. So I soon accepted that it was just another day. I always envied people that everyone in their family said Happy Birthday first thing in the morning and made the day very special. It seemed like it would be so much fun. My daughter always makes me feel special but that's really it.

  12. i love my birthday and i have always celebrated it in a special and big manner, until 8 years ago. i married my husband and he doesn't do birthday, and was raised in a family that didn't do birthdays–he's never even had a b-day party. i haven't given up and feel the compromise would be for him to do mine and not do his, but to assume it's a "no" to both of us isn't working.

  13. A very happy birhday to you!! And many, many, healthy and prosperous more!!

I LOVE to celebrate my birthday… due to religious reasons, I didn't even get to celebrate a birthday until I was 30!! (Story for another day). So The Hubs makes it a big deal for me every year, as does his sister and my kids. I even wear a HUGE button that says. "It's my birthday. Where's my present?"

  14. Hello there! I haven't been by in a while. I need to catch up on your blog! I gave your blog an award. Stop by to pick it up!

  15. A belated Happy Birthday to you!

I feel like you do about my b-day, so I don't think it's weird.

There are some years, though, that I am in the mood to have everyone celebrate my existence on that day…I guess it just depends on the mood that year!

  16. Personally, I give more attention to my loved-ones birthday. And I don't really care about my own. In fact, I don't like "celebrating." Just being at home, eating a cake, is good enough.
