This school year my oldest son will be entering Kindergarten! While he is certainly ready mentally to begin, he isn’t completely set with his back to school wardrobe. His new school has a uniform dress code policy that is fairly strict so that means we are virtually starting from scratch for his school clothing. Finding school uniforms at affordable prices can be tricky but I discovered that Cookie’s Kids offers plenty of options online.

To make it a bit more fun, I got Lucian on my laptop with me to pick an outfit for school. While this wasn’t the most entertaining for him because how exciting could picking out a polo and pair of khakis really be for an almost six year old, he was a trooper about the whole thing.

There were several different brand options to choose from for all pieces. When I saw the Nautica brand for polos I knew I wanted to get one as I was familiar and knew what to expect in terms of quality. And at only $8.99 the price was right for this Navy Nautica Boys Polo. I was hoping to find size slim for boys uniform pants but only found a single brand in the wrong color so I took a chance on a pair of boys French Toast khakis priced at $11.99. We rounded the outfit off with a three pack of boys dress socks for only $3.99.

I had fun creating this board for my back to school uniform finds!

I then let Warren pick out something for his upcoming Pre-K class. Even though we still have a ton of hand me downs from Lucian’s wardrobe, I always make sure to get Warren some new things as well. It wouldn’t seem fair otherwise!

I’ll admit he had more fun simply because he wasn’t limited to uniform choices. He immediately gravitated to this fun Angry Birds boys t-shirt for $7.99. I was happy to purchase it for him.

I was able to get an entire uniform, including polo shirt, khaki pants and dress socks along for Lucian and a shirt for Warren, all for well under $40 with shipping. Not bad!

Our package arrived fairly quickly and the boys were happy to see their new clothes. Lucian had no problems posing with his uniform as soon as I asked for a smile and he spotted my camera.

As I feared the waist, even with the elastic in the back, is too big for Lucian. But I figure that since the length seems plenty long, he’ll hopefully grow into them and I’ll appreciate a new pair later in the year.

When Warren saw his Angry Birds shirt he felt that it seemed a bit big for him but I thought it was perfect. Plenty of room to grow without being grossly over-sized. Isn’t it a cute tee?

They both placated me with a picture of them in their new clothes. And as a mom, I couldn’t be happier that they held hands without me even having to ask! I know the day will come all too soon when they wouldn’t dream of doing that.

Here is a little more information on Cookie’s Kids which is celebrating their 40th anniversary! You’ll find clothing for children in all ages starting from infant on up!

In 1972, a young man named Cookie and his brother Marvin went into business together. They rented a 1600 square foot store in Jamaica, Queens, fixed it up, bought inventory and Summer and Fall, and opened a day after Thanksgiving with a full stock of holiday toys. The toys were a success and they put the extra money toward buying children’s clothing for the next season. When that did well, they bought more clothing. The business was on it’s way.
As the brothers Cookie, Marvin and Sonny, who had come in as a third partner in the business, began to open new stores in new locations, inventory expanded. Besides the latest fashions, our customers wanted shoes, toys, backpacks and accessories and we were prepared to deliver.
By the late 1990’s there were six superstores throughout the NYC area, and though they previously had different names, by that time they were all named Cookie’s Kids. Also in the late ’90s came an important addition to Cookie’s Kids’ inventory: school uniforms. It was the steady success in uniform sales that paved the way for founding CookiesKids.com in 2007, which originally sold uniforms and soon after the entire Cookie’s Kids Inventory.

Since this is my first year with my son going to school where uniforms are required, I’d love any advice you may have! I currently have five short sleeve polos, two long sleeved polos, a caridigan, a sweater vest, one pair of shorts and four pairs of pants. Is this enough?

  1. if you could check out the goodwill or local consignment shops you may find some really great deals on uniforms at a great price an discount

    1. That is a really great idea! I’m actually not too worried about buying new though since my middle son can wear them next year. I can get two years out of them! 🙂

  2. Sounds like quite a bit to me. My daughter sent and bought more for my grandson who here in Georgia has to wear them also. The thing is, they change sizes so often so you hate to get too much. I know my daughter tends to keep buying and buying. They also have school tee’s at my grandsons school they she purchased. Not sure if that is the case at your son’s school or not but it mixes it up a bit.

    1. I’d like to always be able to make it a week before having to do laundry and around here it gets cold in the winter so layers are good. 🙂 They have tees but I think you can only wear them on special days.

  3. We don’t need uniforms for our schools but really, I think the clothing would be great for semi-dress clothes. The prices are pretty great too! That was surprising. Our neighbors had kids in a private school that required uniforms and I was always jealous they didnt have to fight over kids clothing styles and didnt have to worry about matching up clothing. I often wish Public schools did the same..especially when the kids get older and girls seem to get so competitive and strange over their clothing choices. It sure simplifies!
