It is back to school time, and that means getting back into a routine after the fun summer break. This used to be a harder transition for my kids, but now that my oldest two boys are in 2nd and 3rd grade, they know what to expect. It is also time for us to be thinking about exactly what activities they will participate in this year and what I’ll be sending them with for lunch and snacks. Like most parents, I want to raise happy, healthy kids! That is why we love going to the park, playing in our large backyard and going on nature hikes to keep our kids active. We also limit snacks to certain times of the day so they don’t graze and offer snacks that we can feel good about, like granola bars, yogurt and fruit. I received a Quaker® Fuel Up to Play 60 Family Fun Kit which fits perfectly into our lifestyle!
Quaker has teamed with Fuel Up to Play 60, the nation’s largest in-school wellness program, and Emmitt Smith to encourage and inspire families to balance eating sensibly and getting active as they fuel up for back-to-school.
With this partnership, they want to help families understand the importance of eating sensibly and getting active to maintain a healthy lifestyle. From his days gearing up for football season, to getting his own kids prepped for the school year, Emmitt Smith knows firsthand that a healthy lifestyle helps families fuel greatness for the season ahead.
Quaker has been committed to fueling families for the past 138 years by offering nourishing products made with whole grain oats, educating families on the importance of leading an active lifestyle and seeking partners that offer physical activity solutions. We walk to and from school each day, sometimes my daughter whines about it but I like to use it as an opportunity to talk with her about being fit and the importance of having strong and healthy bodies.
I like to pack all snacks for the week like raisins, granola bars, etc. on Sundays so we can just grab and go.
My tip to get kids to snack healthy (not that I’m able to follow it) is to not buy junk and have it around.
I try to make sure to follow the food pyramid when plating dinner!
We like yogurt and fruit as snacks.
One tip for snacking on healthy snack foods is to not bring the junk foods to tempt you into your home! That’s what I do, so my grandsons only have a choice of healthy snack foods.
Our son just started Kindergarten so I’m still learning but I tried to buy lots of healthy snacks before school started so he would have a lot to pick from. We also try to spend time outside when the weather is nice and try to have our son in at least one physical activity like karate or swimming.
I pre-pack snacks so the portion size is right and it’s healthy!!
My best tip is to reward my children for all periods of activity, if they say they want a snack I say they have to burn some energy first.
We use snack size baggies to keep healthy snacks at hand throughout the day.
My tip is to always add fresh vegetables and fruits to the lunch! We add cucumber slices, apples, mango, etc.
My tip: Keep healthy snacks and chilled water visible and available for family members. Hopefully they’ll grab something healthy first!
My favorite tip is to keep a schedule and have the kids go to bed early so they are refreshed in the morning!
We have family time outside everyday. It works much better than just telling the kids that they need to play outside
I serve my grandson fresh fruit when he comes over.
My Tip Is To Have A Snack Bin Filled With Healthy Choices, It Makes It Easy And Fun For The Kids.
Our meals and snacks revolve around meats, cheeses, eggs, vegetables, with a little bit of beans, rice, and fruit. Staying away from sugar and excessive carbs is the goal.
I like to keep healthy snacks in easy containers in the fridge for the kids to grab and go
These would be great to take camping.
We have been eating more fresh fruits and vegetables and cut out late night snacking
