It is back to school time, and that means getting back into a routine after the fun summer break. This used to be a harder transition for my kids, but now that my oldest two boys are in 2nd and 3rd grade, they know what to expect. It is also time for us to be thinking about exactly what activities they will participate in this year and what I’ll be sending them with for lunch and snacks. Like most parents, I want to raise happy, healthy kids! That is why we love going to the park, playing in our large backyard and going on nature hikes to keep our kids active. We also limit snacks to certain times of the day so they don’t graze and offer snacks that we can feel good about, like granola bars, yogurt and fruit. I received a Quaker® Fuel Up to Play 60 Family Fun Kit which fits perfectly into our lifestyle!
Quaker has teamed with Fuel Up to Play 60, the nation’s largest in-school wellness program, and Emmitt Smith to encourage and inspire families to balance eating sensibly and getting active as they fuel up for back-to-school.
With this partnership, they want to help families understand the importance of eating sensibly and getting active to maintain a healthy lifestyle. From his days gearing up for football season, to getting his own kids prepped for the school year, Emmitt Smith knows firsthand that a healthy lifestyle helps families fuel greatness for the season ahead.
Quaker has been committed to fueling families for the past 138 years by offering nourishing products made with whole grain oats, educating families on the importance of leading an active lifestyle and seeking partners that offer physical activity solutions. Partners like Fuel Up to Play 60 and Emmitt Smith help continue that mission.

Early bedtimes and a yummy breakfast.
We stick to our healthy snacking by not having junk food around the house. If it’s not in the house, we are not tempted to eat it.
We keep an active lifestyle by doing lots of sports.
I start putting my kids to bed a little earlier each night a week or two before school starts and avoid buying sugary snacks so we snack smart!
For Back To School, I like to get the kids back on a schedule the week before so we’re better prepared when school starts.
My tip is to keep healthy snacks readily accessible and in plain view of the kids. Let them choose which ones they want. Keep the junk out of the house or hidden from plain view.
Our back to school plan is to start going to bed earlier and getting up earlier each day to ease into the routine.
pack and plan ahead!
granola bars are perfect for on the go!
oops entered wrong instagram in rafflecopter! @monet4me
We make bins they can choose from, one no so healthy and the other very healthy.
Cut up celery and carrots and have them ready for an easy snack that is healthy
When I go grocery shopping, I have my son help pick out healthy snacks for school and for after school. He really enjoys being a part of the process.
We walk to the park when the weather is nicer, if not, we walk around the mall and window shop. I try to have granola bars and fresh fruit and veggies after our walks or during them.
I am quite fortunate that my kids love fruits and some veggies and have no problem snacking on them!
This time of year the kids have been having lots of fresh veggies from the garden and fresh apples and pears right off the tree to stay healthy. They also have a bike trail across from our house that they use a lot.
Keeping snacks in the lunch box is a big hit with my eight year old
We always have a big bowl of fresh fruit on the table
