Do I have a Minnesotan accent?

My blogging buddy Cat from 3 Kids and Us can’t understand a lot of what I say. Apparently I sound like I’m from Canada. So when I saw her and several other bloggers taking part in a dialect/accent vlog link up, I decided to take part.
I have found that even within the same state there can be vast differences. In college my husband and I became great friends with a couple from the western part of the state who said several things differently. For example, they invited us over for “barbecues” which I assumed was either BBQ pork or something grilled. Um, no. They were sloppy joes! They also referred to the meal the night before a wedding as the Groom’s Supper. Now, I use the term supper all the time but I’ve only ever referred to that as a groom’s dinner or rehearsal dinner.
So what do YOU think? Do I sound like I’m from Canada? Do I follow the stereotypical Minnesotan accent that you hear in all the movies? (And for the record, I DO NOT say “you betcha”.)

What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped
body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry
groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
And now it is your turn to share! Link up so I can hear you!

Yeah, it sounds like you have an accent. Creyen was how crayon sounded to me. I love it, it’s cute! And another “pop” person. Hurray! A sun shower huh? I’ve never even heard of this. This was a fun vlog.

LOL I don’t think you have an accent, mind you I’m from Ontario, Canda so, maybe we do have the same accent!
🙂 I think I’ll have to give this a try!
How fun! You sound totally normal to me but I live an hour from you so that would explain it! 🙂 And yes, it’s POP! They need to add sauna to the list lol
I think you don’t really have an accent like most Minnesotans… I hear a little bit of it. The only word I thought was funny was “caught” it sounded like the small extra bed you sleep on over someone’s house – “cot.”
Not to mention, so far you are the ONLY one who has said “aunt” correctly – there is a “U” in that word!! TeeHee
Yeah it sounds like you have a slight accent. It’s great too!!! 😉
Another way to tell if you have a Minnesota accent–do you pronounce caught and cot differently?
When I moved to Cali everyone said I had an “accent’ and I’m from WI and they have this great misconception that people say “don’t ya know”.
Well, I guess since I’m from Minnesota you sound normal to me… But it is called a rollie pollie and we do have them in Minnesota. I used to play with them as a kid.
I’m From Northern Minnesota And When I Go To Down South They Say That I Have A REALLY Thick Accent, I’m Like No, Listen To Some Of My Other Friends! Lol, But Even When I Go To Nebraska They Ask If I’m From Minnesota Or Canada. 🙂 Haha
