Finger Puppet Theater {Craft Tutorial}

I love it when craft time appears out of nowhere in our day without any preparation or planning. Last week we stopped at a garage sale that our good friends were having and my daughter bought two adorable finger puppets to add to our little collection. Our main set she got as a baby gift (from IKEA I believe) and we’ve loved playing with them since she was very little. Our new little friends include a princess and a frog prince and they’re adorable. We only had animals prior so she’s having a lot of fun pretending with them again.

FingerPuppetTheater_2As I was walking to the recycling bin with an empty box an idea hit. Hmmm. Maybe, just maybe I could make a puppet theater! I ripped open both ends and lifted just one of the flaps to make a spot for her hands to hide and taped it from both sides (a little tricky and not a long-lasting stage but it worked). I taped the outer flaps at 90 degree angels to stabilize the box and we set to work decorating. Of course you could do anything when it comes to decorating your box. That’s half the fun of this project. Let your little one lead the way! We glued paper to the top, added stickers, and practiced tracing and coloring on our stage. This would be adorable with some curtains on the front if you have some extra fabric.

My daughter spent the evening putting on a finger puppet show for her grandparents and of course… the princess got a kiss from the frog prince by the end of the night (although he had to chase her a bit).
