You may have caught my recent post about the best give I ever gave. Now I just can’t resist telling you about the best gift I ever received. It happened this very Christmas and was a gift from my boys. Typically people think I’m hard to buy for (I don’t really get that) but apparently I’m really easy for my four and two year old. When Daddy took them shopping at Target, they picked out these bad boys.

Yep. Knitted Santa slipper socks. I never imagined that a gift that I would normally scoff at, a gift that had I passed it while browsing the aisles at Target would have wondered, “Who the heck BUYS this hideous stuff?”, apparently THAT is the perfect gift for me.

When Lucian presented me with the gift, the gift he had helped picked out with his brother I knew that I didn’t care what it was. Whatever it would be, it would be picked with love from my two little boys.

This gift immediately brought a huge smile, warmth to my heart and a giggle that I managed to suppress because really, these socks are just so very priceless.

There are a few benefits to receiving Santa slipper socks such as these:

1. They are super cozy with grippers on the bottom and I’ve been wearing them the last two days because they are just that cozy and display my love for the gift.

2. They are seasonal. ’nuff said.

3. The Santa heads are so fat, I couldn’t possibly stuff their little bodies in any shoe or even boot for that matter. (And it probably wouldn’t be very kind to suffocate them, now would it?) Therefore these socks will be making no public appearances.

4. My husband noticed that when my lounge pants cover the Santas it looks like devil horns are sticking out of my feet. Bonus.

Looking at it closer it seems as though my feet devoured the Santas and all that is left are these sad, deformed little legs. Poor Santas.

As I started wearing them around my husband admitted they have a total creep factor and perhaps he should intervene next time the boys pick out something that might not be the best choice.

I say, let them pick out whatever they like. I just got the most memorable gift EVER. And I realized that it really is the thought that counts. No REALLY.

  1. THIS made me smile and giggle and the pictures added to the greatness of this!! It’s so sweet that your husband took your boys shopping for you!! You’re a great mom for loving these regardless!! 🙂

  2. My husband makes me crazy by interveening. But not only because i love getting something my boys actually picked out but also cuz he’s a sucktastic gift giver so my 8 year old usually picks out something I’d love more than he would anyway.

  3. So cute! My son wrapped my husband some of his broken candy canes all by himself. The gift was so tore up but it was the cutest thing that he thought to give his daddy a gift. Kids are so sweet 🙂

    1. Aren’t they though? Lucian certainly noticed I was wearing the santa socks and seemed all proud. So sweet. I’m sure his daddy loved the crushed candy canes!

  4. HUGE belly laugh here and I know my family is wondering WHAT the heck had me bust out like this and wake everyone! I love it! (your story…no public appearances…OH migosh that just tops them ALL!)
I think you should do a post on the very sweet but crazy things our kids find to gift us…I’d have to think long and hard as my oldest is 29 and have 6, all the way down to 11. SO darn funny!!

    1. Oh, so glad you got a good laugh. I was giggling as a wrote and just hoped someone else found these as funny as I did! 🙂

  5. Oh my goodness, those are exceptional! Your husband must’ve had to restrain himself big time when he let the boys pick these babies out! You are one lucky mama!

  6. Aww! How sweet. When my kids were little they had a tendency to pick out gifts for my dad that he could use to play with them! LOL They would find toys THEY liked and say he would like it because they could play together. 😉

    1. It is funny you say that. When I took them shopping for their dad Lucian’s first gift choice was a new computer to which of course I had to say no, too expensive. Then Warren chimed in with a big Buzz Lightyear. I had to say no, that is a gift for you not daddy. Finally Lucian came through with something very specific: black running socks. Perfect! 🙂

  8. Hello, I’m sure these will be cherished for years and bring a smile to your face every year. My kids are 28 and 20 and every year when we decorate there are tons of handmade ornaments and construction paper santas and such that I hang all over. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Some day, God willing I will have grandchildren that I can point out, your mama or Daddy made this. Enjoy your slippers and take care of them. You’ll be happy to still have them 20 years from now.

  9. i love this post! It’s something I would laugh at to if I would see it at Target, but they are adorable.. and looks like your little boys did a good job!
