I love Not Me! Monday created by My Charming Kids so I’ll take this time to reflect on what I did not do this past week. Please take a moment to visit MckMama’s blog and see what she has not been up to this past week.
My family and I spent the weekend at my parent’s house to celebrate Warren’s 2nd birthday and my niece’s 1st birthday. I did not have so many mishaps while there that it is hard to remember them all.
To start, I did not decide to make my son’s cake myself to save money and make it more personal. I didn’t go all deluxe with the giant cupcake cake and include a strawberry cream filling that I had never made before. While stirring it over the stove constantly for 10 minutes (super fun time) I did not splatter and get strawberry juice on the bottom of my cream top. If I did I would have added an apron to keep it from happening again and wouldn’t you know, the moment I took that apron off, I may have gotten that top dirty AGAIN.
I didn’t spend way too much time on this filling, stress that it might not be thick enough and enlist my mother’s help to be certain it would work and adding some powdered sugar. (Worked like a charm.)
While icing this cake I did not overfill the decorator’s bag well past the very obvious DO NOT FILL PAST THIS LINE line. I would never do something like that so I definitely didn’t have icing oozing over the top and onto my hands as I tried to decorate the top of the giant cupcake. My hands weren’t covered in it before I was done. I’m a very neat baker you know. (Ha!)
Looking back I do not realize that saving $20 by not ordering a cake I spent about four hours on a cake that I thought was going to be a cinch and plenty of money on materials. In the end though I felt good making a cake special for my son and it tasted wonderful but it really can’t be looked at as a “cost savings”.
While eating lasagna later that evening I didn’t completely miss my mouth and have a piece of noodle hit my chin only to fall down on my cream top. It didn’t create a nice complimentary splatter next to my strawberry sauce. Fed up, I may have gotten up to change my top only to realize I forgot my overnight bag at home which also included our toiletries. I would NEVER forget something so important so of course I didn’t end up borrowing clothes from my mother and feeling a bit silly.
I also didn’t fill up my water bottle before leaving and add way too much, causing a nice overflow all over my parent’s counter.
And I’m not sitting here thinking how easy it was to come up with some great Not Me! Monday moments. Way easier than it really should be…
haha, great post! I always end up wearing my dinner… At least you have a good story to share from your cupcake, lol.
Those cupcakes are huge! I love them! I often think I am saving money by making things myself… not always cheaper, but I am always proud to say I made it myself!
I am glad the cake worked out. It turned out well.
P.S. I actually left my son’s diaper bag at my in-laws this weekend. I couldn’t believe I traveled home without diapers.
Ha Ha. Glad to read that I am not the only one who doesn’t do silly things when it comes to their kids birthdays.
