I love swaddling my babies. Thankfully they’ve all loved it as newborns and I know it has always contributed to sleeping through the night. Now that my youngest Wesley has just turned five months, I’m happy he still allows me to do it. I know that the time will come shortly when he wants his arms free or starts to really roll over and I’ll have to stop. This isn’t such a big deal in summer but once the cooler weather hits in the frozen tundra I will be thankful for sleep sacks to keep my little guy warm throughout the night. Regular blankets can be not only dangerous, they can easily be kicked off.
Learning to swaddle properly can be a bit tricky but HALO Innovations makes it super easy with their HALO SleepSack Swaddles. Simply insert your baby into the sleep sack and use the adjustable swaddle wrap to keep your baby’s arms secure. This prevents the “Moro” or startle reflex.
Other great benefits:
- Developed, tested and used in leading hospitals. It is the #1 choice of hospitals.
- A portion of every purchase goes to First Candle/SIDS Alliance and The Canadian Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths.
- Approved for “Hip Healthy” by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute Learn More about Infant Hip Dysplasia
Overall I love how easy it is to quickly swaddle him securely and it is perfect for those who don’t consider themselves expert swaddler. The velcro stays put and keeps him tucked in all night long.
The sack and swaddle are a single piece so while you can allow your baby to sleep his arms free, you can’t remove the swaddle wrap entirely. I found that one side of the velcro is a bit rough and scratchy, which is to be expected. However, I didn’t want that part of the wrap exposed for my baby to scratch himself on. While you can technically choose not to swaddle with this sleep sack, I haven’t because of this.
I know by using this sleep sack for swaddling, it will make for an easy transition to the traditional SleepSack wearable blanket when our swaddling days are over. Unfortunately I think that is very soon as my baby is growing so fast! (Doesn’t it seem as though he is just humoring me in these photos?) I absolutely love sleep sacks which allow full range of motion for his arms and legs to kick but keep him warm all night long!
Did you know that HALO has been working with hospitals to provide SleepSack Swaddles through its HALO® Safer Way to Sleep Initiative?
Today, over 800 hospitals nationwide are taking part in the program and modeling safe sleep practices to new parents right from their child’s first day of life. Leading health organizations agree that modeling proper baby care in the hospital is the single biggest influencer on how parents care for their baby at home.
Unfortunately my hospital didn’t use use HALO SleepSack Swaddles when my children were born. I would have loved if they took part in the “Take Home” initiative which would have given me a HALO SleepSack to take home from the hospital. Does yours?
