Considering Ways to Spruce Up Our Outdoor Space | The Home Depot Garden Club #DigIn

It is hard to believe that spring has arrived. While our temperatures have gotten warmer, they are often still in the 30s and we have plenty of snow. It is slowly melting to reveal brown grass and while that might not be exciting to some, I know in the next month or two this area will be a gorgeous canopy of green. We have been blessed with a very large yard at an acre and a half (in town) but right now it is hard to appreciate its full beauty.
While our front yard looks like this right now…
several months ago it looked like this.
And while my backyard might seem slightly depressing at the moment, I know that soon…
it will once again be the beautifully green and peaceful place where I enjoyed a picnic with my boys last summer.
And eventually back to the amazing colors that showed themselves last fall!
Winters may be extra long in Minnesota but we can certainly make the other seasons count! And with so much area to work with, I’ve been really thinking about ways in which to add some special touches to our outdoor spaces. A great resource to do this is with The Home Depot Garden Club. By joining you can receive some awesome benefits, including over $300 in email exclusive savings each year. They offer project ideas and how-to advice which is exactly what I need!
One project that I’d love to tackle is this Whiskey Barrel Planter.

I think it would look great next to my house and allow me to add some beautiful flowers without having to dig into the ground. Right now we have rock all around the edge of our house and I think this would fit in nicely!

I adore your trees and the colors. On our land, we have no tree’s as this used to be a hay/grain field. What we are looking at doing is bricking our flower beds and walk way, add soil and then plant flowers in those as our soil is that clay that doesn’t allow good growth of any plants (but sure does grow weeds and grass well…lol). I am surprised our rose bush, out of all 20 things I planted, is the only survivor. We are also wanting to add a water fountain or sort. My 3 year old daughter is fascinated by water fountains. Add some character to the house.
As I look out my window at the mid-April snow coming down, I’m finding it hard to imagine that it will ever be pansy-planting time. Thanks for the glimpse forward.
Great pictures! I hope our snow is past for the year now, but in PA
that’s never a given and I remember hard frosts into mid May other
years. We’ve put our garden “toys” and ornaments out now, so I
hope spring is here to stay this time! Katharina

It is inspiring to read others adventures into renovating/sprucing up. Sometimes it is the motivation that I need to get me going on a project. We are continuing with our garden renovation and new plantings. Beautiful photos and the whiskey barrel planter was always a favorite of my mothers as well. She passed it on to me.
Snow all day on Monday. Snow all day today (Wed). I am very tired of snow. Last frost May 11th. Plant then.
Ahh I am in Iowa I feel your pain waiting for spring 🙂 I saw a commercial the other day about flower towers at Home Depot I would love to give those a try.
I am an avid gardener but broke my hand and need another surgery so not sure my garden will be doing much :/
REAL NICE PICTURES!!!!
It’s still to chilly to plant anything here yet. I plan on planting some flowers next to the house and a couple of bushes near the back of the yard. I also plant on putting some grass seed down.
We love Home Depot and buy all our house repair and garden materials there. They have a great plant/flower department with good quality.
I love your backyard. I bet you guys have a blast in that beautiful yard!
I love home depot–they got every thing!!
You guys did a great job, we are working on that also. We feed the yard late last year and surprising it worked, so green and beautiful. Still need to go to Home Depot to pick up some fertilizer and plants for the garden. So happy with Home Depot, we always use them for supples. Have a great day and get ready for a cook out in that beautiful yard.
Such a beautiful yard you have! Lots of area to get creative with! The Home Depot is my hubby’s favorite store. We’ll be going there soon to start our yearly yard project!
It’s always hard to come up with cost-friendly projects for such vast spaces. Those shrubs for around your house that you picked out will bloom nicely.
Got my planters at Home Depot – they had a great selection. Cannot wait to start planting flowers.
Love getting my backyard ready for spring/summer! Home depot always has the cutest planters
gotta go to home depot this weekend and get some planters to put outside my door…
Love Home Depot! My stepson just got a job there.
