It is hard to believe that spring has arrived. While our temperatures have gotten warmer, they are often still in the 30s and we have plenty of snow. It is slowly melting to reveal brown grass and while that might not be exciting to some, I know in the next month or two this area will be a gorgeous canopy of green. We have been blessed with a very large yard at an acre and a half (in town) but right now it is hard to appreciate its full beauty.
While our front yard looks like this right now…
several months ago it looked like this.
And while my backyard might seem slightly depressing at the moment, I know that soon…
it will once again be the beautifully green and peaceful place where I enjoyed a picnic with my boys last summer.
And eventually back to the amazing colors that showed themselves last fall!
Winters may be extra long in Minnesota but we can certainly make the other seasons count! And with so much area to work with, I’ve been really thinking about ways in which to add some special touches to our outdoor spaces. A great resource to do this is with The Home Depot Garden Club. By joining you can receive some awesome benefits, including over $300 in email exclusive savings each year. They offer project ideas and how-to advice which is exactly what I need!
One project that I’d love to tackle is this Whiskey Barrel Planter.

I think it would look great next to my house and allow me to add some beautiful flowers without having to dig into the ground. Right now we have rock all around the edge of our house and I think this would fit in nicely!

You have such a gorgeous backyard. So many trees. Imagine all the great memories your boys are making back there.
And, man I miss Home Depot!
wow, those pictures are beautiful,,we are just now getting some of our summer stuff out of storange
I love that Whiskey Barrel idea and your yard is fabulous!
you have a beautiful backyard! love that you can see all the seasons! the club sounds awesome! i too want to fix mines and do a garden!
Love your backyard! We have a huge yard too (we live on a corner lot) but I’m in Florida so we don’t get pretty fall colors lol… and I am from New England, I miss the snow and seasons horribly.
I do love Home Depot and the garden club though. We have 3 raised garden beds for veggies and fruits, plus a few containers – this year I am attempting a little bit of everything (green beans, wax beans, zucchini, eggplant, cucumbers, onions, yellow squash, butternut squash, watermelon, cantaloupe, spaghetti squash, green/red peppers, broccoli, tomatoes – I think thats it lol. I plan to do bok choy and carrots but haven’t gotten around to planting them yet. We also have some herbs planted. I’ve also been redoing our flower beds – I have 2 plumeria trees from cuttings my neighbor gave me last year that I need to get into the ground this year. She also gave me a jasmine tree this year that we planted. I’ve been wanting to get a gardenia bush too. I’ve been spending a lot of time at home depot lol Plan to go again tomorrow to check out what flowers they have 2 for $1 (I need some just to attract bees to the veggie garden) and what veggie & herbs they have 5 for $10 – now that I NEED anything but… hey, you never know.
Those are some awesome plans for your garden! My parents also have raised garden beds for their veggie garden and it works great for them. I’ve been considering them as well!
I plan to dig up my front flower beds and put in drought resistant plants. I drove past a Home Depot nursery today and I can’t wait to go back and check it out!
I love your yard with the space and seasons to enjoy that big yard is awesome!
Your home and yard are so beautiful. I like that Whiskey Barrel Planter too!
Yes, if it warms up just a tad more I’ll be ready to start gardening!
My husband is Mr. Home Depot and goes there all the time. I have never heard of The Home Depot Garden Club. Oh my gosh we could be saving a bunch a money with the special offers and coupons. I am going to sign him up for the program.
I love the colors of the leaves on the trees in your pictures. I would be taking picnics there all the time also.
Beautiful pictures! I love to have plants and flowers in my backyard to make it look nice
Love your backyard! We bought a house that sat vacant for 6+ months and we need to get rid of the weeds in our backyard!
Your pictures were so pretty. I like Home Depot and all the wonderful plants that I can get there. I like your plants in the round planter, and I always get new flowers and plants at Home Depot every year and plant outside in the end of May!
Really nice pictures. Hubby needs to take this “Miss Daisy” out to get some big flower pots now that Spring is finally here in Indiana
What beautiful photos! I plan on planting some new flowers and also adding a bench outside to sit on to enjoy my new blooms!
love that this program sends coupons for garden products
Spring? Today it was 72 degrees. Tonight blizzard warnings & forecast of 6-12 inches of now. Tomorrow’s high: 18 degrees! I want to plant more herbs.
I KNOW! We have a snow storm coming with a winter storm warning for tomorrow through Friday morning and then again we are supposed to get snow on Sunday. I’ve got spring fever!!
We are working on our backyard this month, and I have been having fun coming up with some plans to make it look nice for this spring and summer.
Whiskey barrels are always the thing to integrate the space close to your home and small plants seamlessly (with a natural look) to the wilder areas of your land.
That is what I was thinking too and why I’m so attracted to them. It fits in well with our 1934 built home and won’t interfere with anything else I decided to plant down the road.
Beautiful yard! We have started putting in new grass where it has developed some dead patches. We have also planted flowers in our existing flower beds and we are adding another bed.
the trees are beautiful! thats why my favorite season is fall although winter precedes it. i like the whiskey barrel idea im not sure what i want to do with our outdoor space yet
