Having Fun at Our Frito-Lay and Skylanders Party

My family had the opportunity to host a party to celebrate the partnership between Frito-Lay and Activision for the newest video game in the Sklyanders series, Skylanders Trap Team™ slated for release this fall. My kids love having their cousins over to play, and we were able to have a lot of fun with the theme!
Just for fun, I placed Skylanders figures around as part of the party decorations. BoomJet was just hanging out with the straws, waiting for the Skylanders battles to begin so he could have some real fun.
For a table centerpiece, I collected assorted characters and placed them on a small dessert stand which reminded me a bit of a portal. Of course, a few of the guys got a little antsy and wanted to have some fun of their own. I think Dino-Rang was ready to start chopping some of the veggies that I placed on the table. Apparently even the undead characters like to eat. Who knew?
I couldn’t have a party without any refreshments. And since I knew my Dad would be there, I had to pick up some of his drink of choice, Diet Pepsi. I was surprised to see Bouncer hanging out by the drinks. As a tech guy who is a robot, I always figured he didn’t need to drink anything. Maybe he just likes being next to other shiny things?
Of course, you can’t have a party without any chips. Be sure to look for specially marked packages of Frito-Lay Classic Mix and Flavor Mix 20-count variety packs like this one to receive $10-off coupons for Skylanders SWAP Force™ Starter Packs!
Because we have some selective eaters, I thought I would have two different lunch options. One choice was hot dogs and Frito-Lay chips. Can’t go wrong with this classic. I used a crock pot for the hot dogs, so it was super quick and easy to prepare.
I couldn’t resist serving a favorite of mine, Walking Tacos (a.k.a. Tacos in a Bag). The small bags of Frito-Lay chips work perfectly for this no-fuss option.
Simply crush a bag of Fritos or Nacho-Cheese Doritos chips and open it up. Scoup in some taco meat and add your favorite taco toppings like cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, sour cream and taco sauce to your bag. Mix with a fork and eat right out of the bag!
Walking Tacos are also a quick and easy way to feed a crowd with minimal cleanup. Consider them for any occasion where you are looking for a no-mess option like picnics and camping trips. If you like tacos, you’ll love these!
All of the food was a big hit with guests. What I loved most was that everyone enjoyed it, but it was super simple for me to put together.
I even managed to get a picture of myself with Warren, even if he wasn’t quite ready to have his picture taken.
After filling our bellies, it was time for some Skylanders Swap Force™ battles!
Everyone took turns trying to defeat each other. Some characters like Ninjini dominated because they had been leveled up higher than the others. With so many Skylanders characters available, it was hard to choose which one to be next. I was pleasantly surprised by how patiently the kids waited for their turn. My son Warren and niece Bella used their imaginations to play with the characters instead. My husband was right there with the kids, battling as well.
I offered guests fresh fruit and potato chip candy for dessert. I was happy to see both were very popular with everyone.
Potato chip candy is surprisingly easy. Simple take 2 cups crushed potato chips (I used Wavy Lays) and mix it with 1 1/2 cups of melted chocolate and 1/2 cup chopped pecans. Drop by tablespoons or into mini cupcake liners and refrigerate. That is it! For color I added some mini chocolate covered candies. So delicious!
While Skylanders Trap Team™ won’t be released until October 5, 2014, Frito-Lay and Activision are giving fans the unique opportunity to choose and name a new Skylanders hero which will appear in this latest installment. Be sure to check out the characters and vote for your favorite. Hurry, voting ends today, June 13th, 2014!
